5. MOST ANTI-SURVEILLANCE WORK IS LOCAL

Sorry folks, we're not gonna pass a Federal anti-surveillance law or stop Palantir from building spy weapons by boycotting them (they are not consumer facing). At least not right now. Plug in with local folks fighting Flock, Ring, fusion centers, etc.

4. LISTEN TO AND LEARN FROM EXISTING ANTI-SURVEILLANCE GROUPS

It's great so many people and orgs are becoming aware of surveillance. But awareness is not the same as having a strategy. Learn from orgs like @conmijente.bsky.social @mediajustice.bsky.social who have been doing this work for years

3. RESISTING SURVEILLANCE IS NOT AN INDIVIDUAL PROJECT, IT'S A COLLECTIVE ONE

There are concrete steps that people and organizations can take to protect themselves from government surveillance and repression. But we also need to organize to dismantle the surveillance state. Action over fear.

2. DON'T GET OVERWHELMED. TAKE A FEW SMALL STEPS TO PROTECT YOURSELF RIGHT NOW.

It's easy to get bogged down with guides & settings and conflicting advice. But don't get stuck. If nothing else:

-Use Signal with disappearing messages
-Use a 10+ digit passcode, not Face ID or thumb
-Delete old email

So, for whatever they're worth, here are my thoughts:

1. DON'T PANIC. DON'T TRY TO MAKE OTHER PEOPLE PANIC BECAUSE IT FEELS LIKE DOING SOMETHING

Scaring ppl away from activism & organizing by raising vague concerns about surveillance is not helpful. Take a breath, listen to experts. Don't panic.

Providers: "Age verification" has nothing to do with protecting children and everything to do with getting your face and personal info for their surveillance databases.

Don't bend the knee to your future self being set up.

Data brokers &Big Tech can do almost anything they want with our personal info. These practices endanger all of us!
