Baked, fried or fileted: Fish dishes can link us to our histories The food we grow up with says a lot about our heritage and community. Researchers are on a mission to connect people to local fishers β€” and introduce more Americans to a more diverse array of seafood.

Tonight on NPR, my friend Talia Young talks about the ways her non profit Fishadelphia helps build community by connecting more people to local fishers www.npr.org/2025/04/29/n...

Trump seeks to end climate research at premier U.S. climate agency White House aims to end NOAA’s research office; NASA also targeted

BREAKING from @science.org: The Trump admin is seeking to kill nearly all climate research at NOAA, its climate science agency.

Its near-final budget proposal would end all NOAA research labs, academic institutes, and regional climate centers. And it wants to fully end the NOAA Research division.

I'm able to make this animation of how the ocean breathes in and out COβ‚‚ because of data collected by NOAA scientists, data served at NOAA websites, and tools provided by NASA. All are under threat of being dismantled by the Trump administration.

The rationale for this cancellation is climate denial.

There is no dressing it up, there is no tiptoeing around it.

Yet climate change doesn’t care if we believe it. It will destroy our homes, multiply insurance rates, wreak economic havoc and more β€” regardless of our opinions or voting record.

Maine Sea Grant regains funding after industry, congressional pushback The Maine Sea Grant program regained funding just days after the Trump administration cut funding without warning

It looks like Maine Sea Grant is being reinstated, thanks in large part to the massive public outcry, including by our working waterfront. Celebrate the wins, because they show us what works and energize us for the next round. πŸ’ͺ🏻 🌊 🌲

I just learned that the entire Maine Sea Grant program was cut, in a state where fishing is a huge part of livelihoods. This action will jeopardize the future resilience of coastal communities in the state.

Home - NOAA Ocean Acidification Program NOAA's Ocean Acidification Program prepares us for the impacts of ocean acidification through research and interdisciplinary partnerships.

One of the people fired from NOAA today is the director of the Ocean Acidification Program. That program also leads the U.S. government's effort on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR). The destruction of American science is incomprehensible.

I just checked the 100 most recent job ads on various marine biology Facebook groups and jobs boards.

2 involve SCUBA diving.

The overwhelming majority of marine biology jobs do not involve SCUBA diving at all.

Which means you can follow your dreams even if you medically can't SCUBA dive!

Some valuable fish have been expanding north into New England as waters warm. But while the fish are moving, the regulations are stuck.

Warming up, just not too hard, can help you survive an intense workout. In a new study led by Xinru Li, we found that "priming" - sub-lethal exposure to heat stress - can also help coral reefs survive heat waves... provided the heat waves are not too severe.
