We find:
- This happens in neighbourhoods that are poorer, migrant-dense or more homogenously Swedish
- This is due to different sorting mechanisms: through attitudes towards the neighbourhood or socioeconomic sorting
- Some types have lower well-being that cannot be explained by either mechanism

Together with @karenhaandrikman.bsky.social in @tesg-journal.bsky.social ! We use the Swedish neighbourhood study to explore how well-being is spatially sorted, finding heterogeneous spatial sorting of well-being, showing the importance of the neighbourhood for well-being
Visited Gimo HerrgΓ₯rd to discuss Segregation research, beyond academia. Amazing talks and discussions. Happy to have met Maria Krysan and Kyle Crowder.
Had a nice time presenting some preliminary work on residential mobility reproducing patterns of ethnic segregation at @rgsibg.bsky.social and BSPS. Thanks everybody for their questions and feedback!
At #RGSIBG25 today? Make sure to check out the fantastic set of presentations lined up at @qmrg-rgs-ibg.bsky.social's early career session I'm co-hosting with @fangyuanli.bsky.social

Together with Maria BrandΓ©n and Erik Rosenqvist, we show that distance to higher education shapes academic aspirations in Swedenβwell before their university education begins. (1/4)
Quite a strong final statement: "Descriptive research is important and it is a pity that the general obsession with causal estimates disincentivizes researchers from attempting to publish careful and detailed description."
This is 10-12 tenure-track assistant professorsβ salaries at many places. A whole academic programβs worth of money, pissed away, In Times of Austerity, on rent-a-cops going after students who dared speak. Nobody behind this should have a career.
If you want to know more about this project, my dissertation, or spatial patterns of well-being, feel free to drop me a line!
For what's next, I am so excited to announce that I have started a post-doctoral position at the COMFAM project at Bielefeld University studying family health and commuting with @annaoksuzyan.bsky.social (and many more)!

The dissertation explores the spatial distribution of well-being in Sweden. I find that
- Well-being is spatially sorted at the neighbourhood level
- This overlaps with patterns of ethnic and socioeconomic segregation
- That this might be the result of both sorting and neighbourhood effects

thanks for writing this. i am always somewhat hesitant to tell people I work with populations out of fear they will get weird about fertility and this has provided some good ammunition for the next time this inevitably will happen
