In its #CCM13MSP General exchange of views, NPA's Dagmar MatΓΊΕ‘Ε― emphasized that in times of growing conflict, states must stand firm and oppose any attempts to weaken the hum. disarmament norms they collectively established. Civiliansβ safety must remain the highest priority.
Nearly 20 years later, the message is the same:
π« Cluster munitions = unacceptable civilian harm.

There is no such thing as responsible use of AP mines. These weapons have no place in modern warfare. They don't defend borders, all they do is kill and maim civilians for years to come. NPA's Dagmar MatΓΊΕ‘Ε― with a strong statement on Universalization during #MineBanIM in Geneva.
From ICBL and @npaid.bsky.social event during the #MineBanIM: "These withdrawals are acts of human vandalism and proof of fake security promises. And in ten years from now, weβll look back and regret not challenging states more forcefully. We built this norm together and we must defend it togetherβ
We all know too well how harmful these weapons are, it is our job to defend the treaty. In ten years we donβt want to be thinking back, regretting that we didnβt challenge states withdrawing from the #APMBC more. Itβs a question of human dignity, says HIβs Alma Tazlidzan at #MineBanIM
Itβs a myth that AP mines protect borders. Armies no longer march across borders, using them for this purpose makes no sense. They are set to kill, responsible use is impossible, civilians donβt have maps, and mines migrate, says NPAβ Jonathon Guthrie at the #MineBanIM NPA/ICBL side event.

It remains a critical humanitarian priority to bring the #EWIPA Declaration into effect to prevent and reduce harm to civilians, finds @weaponsmonitor.bsky.social #EWM2024.
To do so, states should endorse and implement the Declaration and avoid the use of #EWIPA.

@asmundaukrust.bsky.social must push for an inclusive peace process β where civilians are protected, supported and have a seat at the table.

NEW: Over 600 people, including children, have been killed or injured by landmines and explosive remnants of war across Syria since December 2024.
Without urgent, nationwide clearance efforts, more civilians returning home will be injured and killed.
π§΅1/2 At #CCMISM25, NPAβs Dagmar MatΓΊΕ‘Ε― reaffirmed that the Convention on Cluster Munitions is grounded in evidence. #clustermunitions donβt win warsβthey kill & injure civilians long after fighting ends. Since then, these weapons havenβt changed and their use remains indiscriminate and inhumane.
