If you're doomscrolling, guess what? So far there are 51 kākāpō chicks hatched and thriving this season, the same number of birds as we had in TOTAL in the 90s! Only one chick has died and there are still fertile eggs waiting to hatch!

Thames witchery spotted on yesterday’s walk. ‘Magic’ I say, grinning. ‘The Canticle of the creatures!’ He says, pointing at the sun. Everyone gets something.

Yesterday in Epping Forest I learned I have the knee cartilage of a much older and more defeated woman.
Something something the history of humanity and domesticated creatures. From the wolf to the aurochs, for millennia we have gone into the wilderness and looked at fanged, horned, obsidian-eyed ultraviolence machines and said ‘if is not fren, why fren-shaped?’ And then made fren.
This is our Winter Olympics
