One of the fun parts of writing this essay was getting to describe the fighting game genre as a developer instead of a player, and explain how stuff like camera expectations and single-screen multiplayer do a lot to constrain the design space to keep the focus on combat above all else.

My mom wasnt scared i was a trans guy, because she'd never heard of them.
She did, however, police my appearance to make sure i didnt "look like a lesbian."
Once i came out as trans, she backpedaled and told me "but there are all sorts of ways to be a woman!"
This one was a lot of fun to write, and took me about a week of morning writing sessions. This is the kind of work I want to do more of going forwards, and I'm really excited to dig into this kind of thing for a while and see where it takes me.
