My artistic skills need to develop a bit, but I nearly have all the colours needed for an agar art project ! π¦ π§«
Red bacteria vs white bacteria π
We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc to work on pathogen interactions. Please send in your application via

It's not everyday that you find purple colonies... Non-chlorinated tap water on R2A agar π¦ π§«
Sure. Some students volunteered their own shower hoses; we then cut them in subsections, extracted the biofilms through scraping, quantified the biomass with crystal violet staining and observed biofilm heterogeneity along the length of the entire hose.
Teaching the next generations of young scientists a practical course about biofilms in building plumbing potable water... these are some fabulous images from their own shower hoses π¦ π§«

If you submitted a paper before x-mas holidays you have to review a paper during said holidays......
These three are pretty decent, although not so many bacteria images as I would like to have!

Tomorrow is open door day at Eawag and we are doing a community science project, looking at the #biofilm in peoples shower hose, and using that as a platform to discuss #legionella and #drinkingwaterquality. Photo shows diverse biofilms from 12 shower hose π

We catalogued all 77 known #Legionella species π
Read about it on our LeCo-project blog here:
