No I think this is a valid discussion! Plus us layman won’t figure it out unless we talk about it. I think your original post is onto something. There is a subset of the RPG audience that expects all RPG’s to be art books which is very interesting to me. Everyone has their preferences.
Agree we do indeed! Too much graphic design is definitely not a thing, just a bunch of pre-coffee rambling from me 😂
Ultimately, if an RPG is easy to run and is able to evoke a vibe through some combination of text and art, whatever blend or style the creator uses is good with me. I think the road each individual takes to get to “good” matters less, and it’s more about the execution of whatever you choose.
I tend to think of graphic design in RPG’s the art of blending the text and art into one cohesive piece for example Mork Borg. On the other hand, Shadowdark for instance, very classic two column with great spot art and readability, i’m not sure i think about it as graphic design. But what do i know!
This 1000%. It’s like cooking a balanced meal.You need just the right amount of each ingredient. Too much graphic design and it’s hard to run, but also too much text can make it just as hard to run as well.
Well, my first Gamehole Con was an absolute blast! Not only did I get to play #RaptorRuckus, #Dragonbane, and #Lancer for the first time, I got to run my upcoming #PirateBorg adventure Saltwater Sacrament for the @need.games guys, with whom I became great friends! Gary Con can’t come soon enough!
