Many of the game's original "investors" have long fled and/or sold most of their positions. Older boxes don't hold value. Older top rarity cards don't hold value. It's becoming clear the end state of every card is a CF or Marvel reprint, so why spend money on anything fancy unless it's that?
I can guarantee you they don't cater to "investors." Currently it feels like they cater to:
1) LGSes, with a consistent, enforced margin on product (unless the set is so bad stores dump under UPP)
2) Newer players, with fancier reprints of existing staples
3) weekly players, w/GEM pack goodies

I'm personally fine with them backing off from reprinting cards I already collected in nice versions in even nicer versions
They're too hard to pull and they're fancier art and borders, it was never about lowering the price. It's about selling $140 boxes with terrible pull rates.
Them being "tournament playable" is just the icing on the cake to drive them sky high.

I'm thankful this time around that the ANQ packs are 100% reprints, _unlike_ SEA. I hated opening treasure packs.

If they keep printing nicer versions of relevant stuff, sure.
The only "safe" thing to collect is CFs. Look at Marvel Frailty, for example. Except those aren't really safe because they're trying very hard to print fancier new RF versions of CF Ls in Antiquity.
I feel dumb for collecting 12k RFs.
The player base is growing but the value of older stuff has been falling for years and years, even the things that see consistent play in modern decks. It's great to be a player and lousy to be a collector, why do both of those things have to be true?
Or I could just stop collecting foil playsets and fancy foils because they're going to upstage all my shit forever, to keep attracting more new players or whatever the reason is.
Why do you suppose classic CFs from WTR/ARC/CRU keep going down? Even CF Tunic is getting cheaper.

You may disagree with the viewpoint of "I just spent $300 on a micro text Shelter From the Storm, could you please not print a better version only a year later?" But I think it's a valid ask.
Plain Shelters should cost $10-20 instead of $60-100, but I feel like an idiot for buying a micro text one.
