Oh no, she checked her work email...! π
The Lanckman Archive and Cinémathèque has once again expanded its collections...
I had a magnificent time at Il Cinema Ritrovato - many films, many friends, many drinks, slight hysteria throughout - but now I'm back and have to deal with things like unpacking my suitcase, getting some research done over summer (lol), and also a house move. Ahhhhhhhh.
I actually have weirdly interesting ideas about this. π Obviously I'll never write them because I need to have 38473839 existential crises about the state of academia instead but still! They're there!
It is a day full of ACADEMIC EXISTENTIAL DREAD, for a change. Aaaaaaaaaaa.

An introduction to the mythos in general, she's never really heard of it before!
If I was going to make an innocent victim read one Lovecraft short story, which one should I pick? (Story, not victim.) My instinct says Call of Cthulhu but I will take alternative suggestions...!

A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.
Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.
This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.
Auschwitz took time.

David Lynch knew the essential secret of storytelling: you can do whatever the fuck you want as long as youβre also trying to solve a murder

A bit of lovely news. We have always been here, and we always will.
this is probably not the most important thing to know about the Panama Canal this week, but if you travel east through the Panama Canal you go from the Atlantic to the Pacific
As the transgender community continues to fight for civil rights in the U.S., one of the most common arguments against progress is that transgender people are a recent phenomenon.
But itβs a fight thatβs been happening here for decades and around the world for centuries. ‡οΈ
Completely agreed. Also, lovely to see you on here!
This is some appalling shit.

Bloody hell, David Lynch! That's genuinely a tough one for me.
The Telegraph who hate illegal immigrants, advising Brits how to be illegal immigrants.
I have, and I did really enjoy it! Agree, imitating Callas is hard, and Jolie's own fame didn't help with that either - it's hard to unsee Angelina Jolie as Angelina Jolie. I think she did a really good job, though.
I would love to go to Brazil but have no money and limited funding available - FSN North America (online) is a really good shout, though!
Exactly, it was STRONG CALLAS VIBES and tbh that's exactly what I wanted from this film. The biopic aspect was a bit iffy, but I want her entire wardrobe, and also the quotability factor was very high...!
Any good conferences coming up this year? Film history, star studies, fan studies, etc? Ideally in the UK or EU somewhere?
