I just used Chat GPT to write code that calls the Chat GPT API in order to generate more code. I'm both impressed and appalled at myself.

[gets rejected for a job] uh excuse me but i have 30,000 followers on the website blue sky? oh you havent heard of it? its like an early retirement home for 30-somethings who wish twitter clout still meant anything
45 degree angle. Marriage is all about compromise, even when it doesn't make much sense
If you care about privacy or good business practices you have the wrong printer brand, by a long shot ;)
Anyhoo, just a bit of early morning appreciation sent forth into the world.
If you're not going to conferences, you're missing out on some life changing opportunities!
3rd place is the feedback workshop @arthurdoler.bsky.social gave at KCDC. Amazingly practical stuff on giving and receiving feedback that has made a huge impact on my career as a leader. (In fact, this thread was inspired by the process of reflecting on & unpacking feedback I'd received recently!)
2nd place is the speakers workshop by Josh Holmes at #codemash a year or two later. He said that you have 60 seconds to lock in the audience's attention, so skip the "about me" slide and come out swinging. Demonstrate your bona fides through stories and confidence. I follow that advice religiously.
1st place is the guy who wasted my time at #codemash so many years ago. I had paid $600 of my own money to attend & he gave a half-assed 30 minute talk. I was so pissed that I paid to attend & he was there for free that I was motivated to submit next year, got accepted, and began my speaking career
Was reflecting this morning on the three most impactful conference sessions I've been to over the years and thought I'd push my appreciation out into the ether. So here goes....
Mitch Hedberg (RIP) had a great joke about baked potatoes.
He would have loved 3d printing.
"Hey Bob, how are sales?"
"Terrible. A bunch of toothbrushes had a security hold and now they've turned into a massive botnet that's taken the site down."
This is why cloud connected devices are often a bad idea

My new home automation concept is a sensor that detects a door opening within 10 seconds of a toilet flushing and announces WASH YOUR HANDS in a loud voice.
I think they'd sell like gangbusters to parents
Back to work for the first day since 12/20.
There's not enough coffee for this.
Like, I mean in the whole world
Nearly $750 for an average car loan payment is nuts.
Thankfully it's just for today and I get to go back home.
First time in a cube in 15 years.
Thanks! I hate it.
a letter-board sign that reads, "mary, exhausted, having just gotten jesus to sleep, is approached by a young man who thinks to himself; what this girl needs is a drum solo"
my favorite holiday meme
I'm feeling pretty good about this #codemash session on authentication. I've continued to tighten it up and have made some significant improvements since Momentum.
I think it's really solid.
So, I look forward to the day after CodeMash when I suddenly realize all the ways it still sucks...
AI: "You're trying to implement a complex algorithm in an unfamiliar programming language, using random types you described in poorly written English? I got you, boo."
Also AI: "You'd like me to create a story problem illustrating a simple 6th grade math equation? Allow me to show my ass a bit..."
Me, in the summer: I'm gonna submit talks I've already written to #codemash, so that I can spend December chilling out and not stressing over prep.
Me in early December: this talk is garbage, I'd better overhaul it.
Me in late December (probably): that was stupid
404 Sleep Not Found
My black cat is 17 pounds and likes to lay on my chest while making biscuits with his knife fingers. I need multiple layers to avoid scaring.
I'm glad he's happy and all, but it makes sleeping a bit tough ;)
Shout-out to the guy at my @momentumdevcon session who asked a question that momentarily stumped me.
You, sir, are the impetus for a few new slides that will make it into my CodeMash deck. Gonna go ahead and clear up that confusion head-on.
I'm team #MallowsOnSweetTaters and #TeamPineappleOnPizza
I think I may have suffered brain trauma as a child
@aaronpetry.bsky.social 10 years. Glad to see Teddy doing so well!
This OpenAI drama is interesting. Looks like the board maybe tried a power play and is now in the FO stage of FA,FO?
Been studying nosql one-table design patterns as I prepare to start our first cloud-native project.
I think I get it, lay things out in NoSQL Workbench, and then try explaining it to someone and realize nope, I still don't totally get it.
Getting closer though.
I have a joke about legacy code, but there's probably only one person out there who truly understands it
