“12 hours on the #12” complete (well, more like 10.5 hours). Five #12 bus rides ($5.50 total). Four food stops. Three markets/craft fairs. About two hours of associated walking. One cancelled bus. And by total coincidence, a total of 12 people over the course of the day!

I’m sure there’s no one else coming out but: Finished potstickers, and none of us actually wanted to continue to the “bar stop” (which didn’t even involve any additional #12 bus, so why bother?), so we called it a day.

Leaving zine fest. Bus we were going to take is cancelled so ETA at cemetery is more like 4:10?

1pm: Potters Studio event is sprawling, lots to see, so next stop (zine fest) will likely start later than planned.

Still at Kermit Lynch, a few folks just arrived, eating, but I expect walking on to the W Berkeley holiday market in 15-20min?

“12 on the 12” status. (if that doesn’t make sense, ignore this thread— just using to coordinate logistics w/ some friends…)

In Haarlem: Adriaan Windmill tour, Teyler’s Museum. Or bike around in national park Zuid-Kennemerland.

CAPTCHAs getting tricky. I am amused by the concept of “HACCP Cereal” as a grocery item.

Seemed like a good week to go watch Princess Mononoke on the big screen (in Emeryville). Gorgeous.

I love that I can ride a flat ~30 mile loop between Oakland and Richmond mostly on bike paths (Bay Trail -> Richmond Greenway -> Ohlone Greenway). Sometimes I add the RSR bridge for lunch at Sol Food, sometimes I ride up to Point San Pablo harbor for lunch at the Sailing Goat.

One mini-resolution: to not buy any new things this month (food and events are fine).

I look forward to it becoming a full-time park this Spring! (I returned today / Monday forgetting it was opened to cars— and had to wait a while to cross the road— even while standing in a crosswalk with one foot in the road cars were blowing by at high speed without stopping)

Walked for a while yesterday along the Ocean Beach Park promenade (opened-to-recreation section of Upper Great Highway in San Francisco along the beach)— saw hundreds (if not a thousand) people out enjoying it, including many families with kids wobbly biking/scooting as they practiced.

Reminded how much I like using bikeshare while traveling (recently, in Portland, OR). Both for the ability to sightsee at a casual pace, and for the convenience of biking from A to B one-way without always having to bike back (if it rains, if I change plans).

Yeah, I’ve gone to community meetings over the years and see people who oppose change / construction and will use any excuse (sometimes not in good faith) to derail a project. But I also think there are people who oppose for idealistic reasons, where there could be common ground. Some day…

Ultimately I stayed 4 hours, through the rental/landlord regulations — even more contentious, w/ some valid points on both sides, council split (including abstentions and absence as No) and mayor had to dial in by Zoom to break tie. It passed, but I won’t recap, for time— I needed to go find dinner.

Note: this agenda item took ~2 hours. The next item (regarding solar energy purchase) had one public commenter and was ~10 minutes. Housing is important to people. Anecdotally, most other members of the public I talked to in the hallway are here to speak on an item related to rental/landlord rules.

And it passes city council with no votes against! (one of the four items involved in this project is an ordinance so that will still go for a second / final reading at a future meeting— I don’t know the full process details).
