I think this card is really important in Gardens because it lets you confidently use crypt rats and snuff out without being anxious about the life pressure-the yard rebuy comes up less than I had assumed it would when I was looking at lists, but it can come up in long games were you would deck out

I was more of a curmudgeon about this stuff until the final fantasy set came out and suddenly we had an influx of new players who were interested in pauper nights at the LGS after picking magic up because they love FF. Pauper is kind of niche so anything to get more people in the door is a win imo.
Avenging hunter too! A lot of key parts of the pauper identity are from non-magic ip at this point and the format is a joy to play. I'm not particularly worried about theming in a competitive format. UB isn't my favorite thing but magic is my favorite game and I'll take flavor weirdness for gameplay
I'm excited to try this as a 2-of in dimir fae! As for gardens I'm just hoping to have a defile in hand I guess? Tithing blade works too but is obviously situational as well and sorcery speed. Thanks for all your writing on the format!
One of the guys at my store runs a deck that runs refurbished familiar and spider-man, and it's very interesting doing the dance between cast down/snuff out/go for the throat when there are legit downsides to each. Part of the fun and charm of the format imo, especially coming from modern
I know pauper players have a lot of feelings about legendary UBs giving downside to cast down but as a gardens player I think it's really interesting in deckbuilding to try to thread the needle between different situational removal--it is fun to have to consider what creatures snuff out misses etc
