Wired was capitalizing on a term that existed previously.
Maker spaces went out of business all over the place, but a few still exist, and their denizens absolutely identify with the term. And many more crafters are doing more or less the same thing without the label. I donβt place a lot of value in identity generally though. You are what you do, imho.
Itβs pretty low quality crap, even by Silicon Valley standards. Iβm frankly surprised the money men thought we would be fooled. They really donβt think very highly of us apparently.
