Welcome to the Era of "Kavanaugh Raids" ICE crosses another big, important line.

America enters a new, dark chapter: "Kavanaugh Raids" on entire buildings and neighborhoods, a chapter surely to be remembered as infamously as we now view the "Palmer Raids" of the first Red Scare. www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/welcome-to...

The physical and emotional isolation that cars breed are toxic on their own, but I also think that having individual command over such powerful machinery warps the human spirit in a way.

How Scientists Started to Decode Birdsong Language is said to make us human. What if birds talk, too?

Scientists have been trying to understand the vocalizations of birdsβ€”and discovering that the animals have intellectual abilities far greater than most people had imagined.

I hate to give wired credit for anything whatsoever. You may be right but I also think the label (or something like it) would have emerged without them

AI rebrands humanistic skills like writing, drawing, creativity, which have all been *thoroughly feminized,* as hard and macho, letting bros who fear nothing more than the whiff of femininity and feminization access creativity without the stench of girliness

I need a way to refer to the place I go to rent a laser cutter. These days that’s called a makerspace.

Wired was capitalizing on a term that existed previously.

Maker spaces went out of business all over the place, but a few still exist, and their denizens absolutely identify with the term. And many more crafters are doing more or less the same thing without the label. I don’t place a lot of value in identity generally though. You are what you do, imho.

I guess I just end up feeling like surface level answers aren’t worth the cost of the environment, our privacy, and our democracy.

No. Makers gonna make. Hasn’t died out in the slightest.

Problem is, is the temporary enervation just what it feels like to learn? To get the new facts under your skin? I worry that it feels easier because it is simply absorbed less. It’s the quicker, more surface level answer, rather than the deep understanding. But maybe that’s the goal at times?
