My new song released today on Apple Music and Spotify!! Brave Magnetic - “All Good Things” (feat Caoilinn Crowley) #exciting
3/3 “In a world of great power rivalry, the countries in between have a choice: to compete with each other for favour, or to combine to create a third path with impact."
2/3 “We accept what is offered. We compete with each other to be the most accommodating. This is not sovereignty. It is the performance of sovereignty while accepting subordination….”
1/3 "Great powers can afford to go it alone. They have the market size, the military capacity, the leverage to dictate terms. Middle powers do not. But when we only negotiate bilaterally with a hegemon, we negotiate from weakness….”
Great question BD! In 10 years, Peterborough will be a city where people can afford to live, find good work, and feel proud of their community. The challenge is taking care of everything the city needs today while still building toward that longer-term vision. Conversations like this actually help!
Affordable is an official provincial standard, but it’s a request.
I could have said nothing, but instead i recognize that housing affordability is a dire need in the community and asked staff to bake that into the bylaw. Thanks Jackie.
There's an amendment on the floor now from @mattcrowley.bsky.social; it suggests that affordable housing be included in the list of options that city council could consider, in exchange for taller building heights.
"50,000 jobs is a lot - we're going to need everybody," says Paz - including people from Peterborough who would like to work for Alto (he's responding to a question from @mattcrowley.bsky.social about whether anyone local will be hired).
"I believe we can compel the owner of a property" that is considering demolition to at least make plans to clean up (through an assessment - and then report back to council), says @mattcrowley.bsky.social
@mattcrowley.bsky.social has an amendment to move. Basically he wants to extract a promise of environmental assessment toward cleanup and mitigation of any contamination that may arise thanks to demolition.

TIL about Brandolini’s Law.
“Brandolini's law is an internet adage coined in 2013 by Italian programmer Alberto Brandolini. It compares the considerable effort of debunking misinformation to the relative ease of creating it in the first place.”

Call your mother. She would love to hear from you. ❤️
Thank you to our Public Works crews.
They’ve been working overtime and around the clock clearing trees and trying to keep the city safe ❤️
@mattcrowley.bsky.social says his mother's been in PRHC, and he thanks ppl for extending their best wishes. "She's the reason I'm on council right now - she actually pushed me into it... She's my champion."
Congratulations to the Peterborough Canoe Museum for being one of @timemagazine.bsky.social “2025 Top Places to Visit”
