There are many reasons why the patient voice is quiet, our stories poorly documented. But our stories matter. We need to be able to tell these stories to heal, to feel represented in society and to move beyond the medical gaze to promote psychologically informed healthcare practice.

Throughout the book, woven between evidence-based, contemporary understanding in psychology, I draw from my own story. I also share testimonials from many others, with a wide range of conditions, who generously shared their healthcare experiences.

This was during a time of rapid technological advancement in medicine yet poor understanding of the psychological and emotional impact of living with a serious health condition from infancy.

One of the things I’m most proud of about my new book is giving my mum the opportunity to share her story of raising a little girl dependent on pioneering, risky heart care (me).

Govt is not taking any equity stake. £120m is not repayable.
