I grew up on the north east coast of Britain and I used to hear foghorns throughout my childhood. Now I hear freight train horns.

The cutest GWR!
Followed this advice in 2025. Will try to do so in 2026.
Good and brave piece on Tourette's by the Guardian's Canada correspondent whom I have enjoyed for years and had wondered why he never does videos or interviews.

Sorry but since you're shafting us in every other way currently, we can't forgive you this time.
Getting shown up in the arena of elite impunity by *the British monarchy* is an incredible โAmerica at 250!โ achievement
I bet you can make a lot of people mad by pointing out that the Ukrainians are fighting a deeply unambiguous anti-colonial war
You'll get though it and even sorta miss it. Solidarity!
This month Dr. Braxton Boyer joined CENES as a Postdoctoral Fellow on the โComputational Dostoevskyโ project!

Toussaint L'Ouverture by Franรงois Cauvin, 2009
Beauty is not a luxury; rather it is a way of creating possibility in the space of enclosure, a radical art of subsistence, an embrace of our terribleness, a transfiguration of the given. It is a will to adorn, a proclivity to the baroque, and the love of too much.

Academics vying for a spot in Epsteinโs world. There are so many. I feel the need to make a thread, so I donโt keep confusing them. 1/

โDigital computing was an extraordinary invention; the constellation of technologies we now just call โthe internetโ even more so โฆ But the question that Enshittification doesnโt ask, doesnโt want to ask, is what if none of this was a good idea to begin with?โ
This is, of course, true, but Canadians managed it to a degree. Donโt buy Jack Danielโs though, donโt visit the US, donโt fly on US carriers, donโt import direct from the US. Donโt use cruise ships registered in the US. Ban X. Iโm an amateur astronomer & I wouldnโt buy a US made telescope now.
Today on the blog! Digital #Dostoevsky: Fiona Bell recaps the 2025 North American Dostoevsky Society @aseees.bsky.social panel:

Our ASEEES panel in the spotlight! Featuring some stylometry work and visualizations from @fyodor76.bsky.social and myself (including this intense cloud of 19th-century author "neighbourhoods")
Today, @wikipedia.org turns 25 years old. It's never been more important โ or under more attack from authoritarians. Here's what to know about how we got here, and what we can do to push for its future. There's no better example of the web we make together. www.anildash.com/2026/01/15/w...
The whole issue is excellent, though! Check them all out here: cuny.manifoldapp.org/projects/jit... with big thanks to the editors for their good work putting this issue together! :)
I keep forgetting to share! But @fyodor76.bsky.social and I published an article in the most recent issue of @jitp.bsky.social, a special issue on minimalist DH pedagogy. It's all about our wonderful undergrad TEI workshop from a few years ago! cuny.manifoldapp.org/read/a-dosto...
This is GOOD news. They will get paid for their content.
