The preseason college football rankings were really, really wrong

The preseason AP poll was really, really wrong this year, which was even more notable because the preseason AP poll is often pretty predictive.

This season, many teams ranked further down the preseason poll had better regular season records than the average among past teams that earned the same ranking.
For only the second time, the No. 16-25 teams had a better combined record than the No. 1-15 teams.

The sport itself is new to Albrecht. But in his most recent job as general manager of MLS Next, a youth league and player development pathway, he oversaw both grassroots soccer and the elite development pipeline — similar to USA Gym, which serves tons of low-level kids but also national teams.
Albrecht said he hopes to increase the relevance of the sport in non-Olympic years and elevate the experience at events to improve attendance.
He previously held a job at MLS focused on commercial strategy for the league's marquee events.
