Sometimes you want a dip nib instead of a fountain pen, and this video might just help you find the right one. After a year or so of testing, I think there are some that are clearly better than others, but let me know which ones you've tried and loved/hated!

This one is so sheeny that you don’t even need amazing paper.
That can help a lot with thick, sheening inks. Has it worked for you with shimmer?
Or! Keep a shim at your desk to clear the occasional blockage. You can also point the tip up and use the converter/piston to move ink through the feed a little to clear it.
Avoiding storing the pen tip-down can also help.
At the end of day, some pens are better with shimmer than others. 🤷🏼♂️

I don’t know about $30 vacs that are on par with the $100 class, but some vintage Parker pens might be up your alley. A 45 is in that range. Or a user-grade 51 could be in that price range, though they’re usually in the $50-100+ category if they’re restored.
I just found out that Tig, Mae, and Fortune have a podcast together, and IG tells me that some of my friends knew this and never mentioned it. I am disappoint.
