Line Drawing β€” Art and Design by Kaitlin Trisciani

Planning some small-scale ink drawings to make the most of limited workspace while I stay with family. It's a great way to explore more ideas, + smaller drawings are more affordable/practical for folks who want to collect original art. What themes should I explore? www.katetrish.com/art-portfoli...

You don't tell a roofer they can't touch houses for 1 year if they patch your roof. Don't try to tell freelancers/contractors they can't work for a huge chunk of likely clients over the next year if they help you version out some cards for 4hr.

Read the NDAs, kids. I was going to submit to the freelance pool for a well-known, global agency that has folks sign the NDA upfront. It has a non-compete clause that would prevent me from working on projects with any of their clients for 1 year if I do any work for them. That's ABSURD.

I didn't even consider YouTube when I was asked about following social developments/trends today. Yet I have YouTube open constantly. I study YouTube-centered production and have friends in that space. I'm an authority on specs with clients. Yet I take it for granted & don't think to SAY SO.

I don't think there's a professional way to explain my tendency to scroll TikTok in the wee hours for both Business and Pleasure...even though all my peers do it. But it's market research. Too many agency pros are behind on this stuff, so I can't be.

I specialize in art direction for social/digital creative advertising (specifically for entertainment campaigns). So why is it so hard to communicate my relationship with social media when asked BY OTHER PROFESSIONALS? "I should probably put my phone down, honestly" <- 1st thing I said this round. πŸ€ͺ

7) "AI" means a lot of different things. If people can sort out the ethical catastrophe, there are developing automations that have legitimate, productive applications. I want better edge detection for roto and up-res tools, not theft blenders designed as flashy weapons for exploitative leaders.

6) For creative work dependent on software/material/team capabilities, detail control, multi-platform specs and best practices, localization or finishing specs, legal constraints, etc. genAI output is largely useless OR actively harmful to the process. We need to start from what's Actually Usable.

18.12.2025 18:48 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

5) If your creative leads can't interpret sketches, rough styleframes, WIP animations, etc. or use basic visual inspo elements successfully (e.g. Colors and textures in a moodboard), they have a competence issue that isn't solved with glossy genAI images.

18.12.2025 18:48 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

4) A lot of leaders are demanding AI tools and regurgitating the talking points while completely ignoring the easy, high-impact problem-solving their teams actually need. Someone who pushes genAI tools for "efficiency" but won't send an accurate work ticket with a deadline is unserious.

18.12.2025 18:29 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

3) You don't need genAI to create a pitch deck. If you're bogged down on unpaid or underpaid pitches, trying to assemble 60 flashy slides of custom design and animation, your problem is not Designers/Artists Are Too Slow.

2) People ideating/pitching concepts that have a hefty visual element (graphics, art, etc.) can't successfully develop concepts without a subject matter expert involved. It's structural, not dressing on top. The Ideas Guy who doesn't understand the work isn't producing good ideas on his own.

I can't say much about the practices of businesses I don't work with. What I can say is...
1) You do not need generative AI to feed you rough compositions. Any decent artist can slap a thumbnail sketch together in seconds and respond with expert, specific adjustments in real time. This is goofy.

RE: Current chatterβ€”I'm glad many people aren't just accepting vague justifications for generative AI use that don't make sense. There are very good reasons to trust the part of yourself that sets off alarms when leaders offer vague half-explanations for morally or ethically questionable shortcuts.

18.12.2025 18:29 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

YES. I don't need my producing partners/clients to generate compositions for me. A scribble on a napkin will do, in those odd situations in which someone needs to communicate specifics...but most of the time I neither need nor want them to be specific in this way (Art + design=my job).

Got a problem? Fair enough! Don't feel like you need to supply the solution. Everyone's almost certainly better off if you just express the problem/need and let the subject matter expert develop and present a solution.

When I send art to a commission client, I don't need or want them to tell me What Would Look Better. It almost certainly WON'T look better. I do, however, want them to tell me if they hate the color yellow or might need more margins based on how they want to frame the artwork later.

When I send a producer graphics to review, as part of my work in creative advertising, I am not looking for art direction. They don't know design/animation like I do. I'm looking for them to let me know if there are alts/revisions needed based on info I don't have/own.

Hey, friends? Friends. I feel like a lot of folks understandably get confused about what they should do when someone sends them creative work for review, whether it's commissioned artwork, graphics for an AV project, etc. If you aren't The Expert, you don't need to supply expert critique/guidance.

26.11.2025 21:41 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Okay, some of the color/contrast relationships on these edges are delighting me. Happy accidents! This is gorgeous.

I love a Concept Album. I love some music with Narrative and Lore. Ethel Cain and Sleep Token? Ohhhh hell yeah. What else do I need to be listening to? Who has the recs?

I'm tired today, folks. If you work in graphics-related AV, please consider your GFX specialists in the process. A GFX-heavy spot can't successfully be art directed by people who don't understand GFX. It's not right to ask a designer-animator to Figure It Out when presented with an unusable concept.

30.10.2025 19:36 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

My best guess is that this usually comes from confusion about what everyone's role is in the process and pressure to seem Valuable as an executive or producer. Bad leadership manifests in a lot of ugly ways. People shouldn't have to give goofy notes just to be seen as Productive.

24.10.2025 00:09 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I've definitely experienced the Office Politics Situations, in which people are trying to either 1) Seem useful or 2) Push the specialists out...but that's not the broader issue.

24.10.2025 00:09 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I truly haven't figured it out. Why be so heavily involved in something you don't think is important? Why trigger so many revisions and take up a ton of time, if the work isn't worth Money? There's something in there about finding art/design/animation Fun and Flashy, but I stay confused.

24.10.2025 00:05 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

These two creative advertising industry conditions don't line up, in my brain:
1) Clients and agencies don't value art/design/animation (Unwillingness to pay, disrespect of specialists, pushing AI, etc.)
2) Clients and producers who don't have any related expertise want to dictate the art direction.

24.10.2025 00:01 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

I'm begging everyone in social/digital creative advertising to stop defaulting to sliding panels in/out. We don't have to keep cutting panels in over a black screen, either. Hire art directors! They have far more specific and inventive ideas for dealing with difficult aspect ratios and UI overlays.
