The red phone rings in the Darlington Nuclear Generating Station Control Room; the watch supervisor grimly picks up the receiver.
"Understood, Mr. Prime Minister."
She unlocks a recessed toggle, switches it from Medical Isotope to Weapons Grade Plutonium. The reactor's hum deepens, churns ominously.

Well, no matter what happens on the other side of the globe, American farmers can always count on plentiful, cheap, easily-transported Canadian fertilizer-powering potash expo-o-oh dear me, perhaps I spoke too soon.

"Your honour, be reasonable: my client simply *can't* pay back the money he stole on account of he already spent it!"

If you see it on the shelf
do not buy it for yourself.
Help the next shopper who comes around:
just put that crap back *upside down.*

If *your own military* visualizes their conflict in terms of blockbuster action flicks and comic book catch phrases drawn from the last twenty years of popular entertainment, what chance have they of understanding a foe which conquered a Pharoah 500 years before Christ was born?

"Mr. McNamara, You must never have read a history book. If you'd had, you'd know we weren't pawns of the Chinese or the Russians. McNamara, didn't you know that? Don't you understand that we have been fighting the Chinese for 1000 years? We were fighting for our independence. And we would fight to the last man. And we were determined to do so. And no amount of bombing, no amount of U.S. pressure would ever have stopped us."

In his memoir, The Fog of War, Robert McNamara recounts meeting with the N. Vietnamese ex-Foreign Minister long after the US withdrawal in 1973. He asks Mr. Thach why the Vietnamese didn't surrender — surely, they must have known their adversary was wealthier and better armed.

Thach replies....

"B-but I thought," whispered the Ontarian waiting hours or days to see an emergency doctor, "it was the *federal* government that spent all our health money making beer & wine coolers more available!"

No, my poor hapless unvoting neighbour, it is not.
Some provinces are better governed than others.

I get they're sore about pipelines or equalization or whatever, but what the heck did that tree do to anybody that it deserved a flagpole screwed into it?

Sign of a sick mind, that.

Sure — he was *electable,* but the party itself rejected him; they didn't feel represented by him. He may have been Conservative in the classical sense, but was not in the modern sense.

Today, that party would prefer sticking to their phobias and psychoses to holding power. Seems miserable, but...

I'm *beginning* to think that this whole healthcare thing, although funded federally, is *actually* administered provincially.

Crazy, sure, but how else do you explain how some provinces get doctors while others [coughontariocough] get converted ice cream trucks trawling the suburbs to sell beer?

It's "federated" like Mastodon; these public are feeds are equidistant from each other, but individually customizable.

Makes me wonder what all the slow-roll "beta" testing is about; this ain't like rocket surgery or sump't'n.

Got my invite, but I'm not getting their "confirm your email address" email, so I guess I'll wait until that gets ironed out.

Meanwhile, I've signed up for Canadian-made Hey.cafe. Seems pretty good so far; less like Twitter/bluesky and more like facebook.

GREAT MOMENTS IN FAILED CANADIAN POLITICIANS ABROAD

"Andrew old bean! How are you?"
"Fine, fine. Lost the election though. You?"
"Bit of a sticky wicket; had to resign."
"Oh? Why?"

"I was caught padding expenses — but I kept my MP gig."
"How much?"
"$900,000"
"Bloody hell!"

"It sucks, Nick."
"[sigh] Thank you, Jessie."
