Delighted to note that the SLF has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the National Book Foundation! This grant will support the purchase of new equipment, upgrades to software, and accessibility and finance training for staff. Excellent.

Aw, I'm so glad it spoke to you. I know WisCon was working on getting the GOH videos uploaded as well, but I don't know how far along they are in that project. They probably have more urgent issues to work on right now...

It's weird when I'm listening to podcasts about food and gardening while I do morning chores (this morning, was Gastropod on Arctic cuisine, which was fascinating) and then it autoplays the next one and it's my own voice coming out of the phone. Freaks me out every time.

We need to take issues like these seriously, but also understand that if there are things that need fixing, it's up to us to fix them, together.

Please remember that these are all volunteer positions, entailing a tremendous amount of responsibility and labor, for no actual pay. Fandom has been a great gift to the SF/F community.

I have a lot of sympathy for the majority of the conrunners involved as well, and especially for the Glasgow Hugo administrators, who are undoubtedly being put under pressure to make substantive changes in a very short time frame.

My sympathies to all of the nominees and winners who are having to deal with all of this when I'm sure they'd rather be focused on their writing.

I can think of several plausible scenarios for what's happened. I'm hoping we'll get more definitive information sometime soon, and would prefer not to speculate in these early days.

Folks, I haven't said anything yet about the current Hugo Award controversy (file770.com/2023-hugo-no...), and I probably won't say much substantive anytime soon.

Whatever happened, it's not on you.

I'm teaching a new course this semester, a 200-level speculative literature class, and I'm focusing it on fantasy. (I did SF last semester). Thought some of you might like to read along -- I may post notes occasionally.
