U.S. May Have Committed War Crime In Sinking Of Iranian Ship The Geneva Conventions say nations have a duty to “take all possible measures” to help rescue victims of shipwrecks. A U.S. submarine left that to Sri Lanka.

“The 312-foot Dena and its 130-member crew, many of them musicians in the Iranian navy band, had just finished participating in an Indian government naval exercise and cultural exchange that the U.S. Navy had also participated in and were on the way home on Wednesday.”

It’s worrying to see how quick many people are, including in politics and media who should know better, to dismiss the lessons from Iraq when advocating deeper UK involvement in the US/Israel-Iran war. Whilst they score cheap political points, history threatens to repeat itself as tragedy or farce.

The levels of sheer ignorance, blundering and schoolboy immaturity displayed by Trump, Hegseth et al in relation to their perverse war of choice against Iran have no parallel in modern history. They were clearly manipulated and pushed into this conflict by Netanyahu who will be its only beneficiary.

Seems likely from the buses (the Fleetline) but as I say, if you can see what's on at the Odeon that will narrow it down. I would imagine it's from a local newspaper archive.

"The same article claims that the Enniskillen bomb killed six children. It didn’t; the youngest victim was 20.

It claims that Bobby Sands was elected MP in 1981 with 30.4% of the vote. Given that there were only two candidates, this would have been mathematically impossible. In fact, Sands got 51.2% of the vote.

In Grokipedia’s main article on Northern Ireland, it says that “on Bloody Sunday, paratroopers killed 14 civilians… initially depicted by some media as unprovoked, though evidence revealed IRA gunfire and nail bombs”. This is the opposite of the truth. Initially, there were claims by the Army that the victims were violent, but evidence disproved this.

Other articles contain dangerous open-mindedness about murder. In an entry on loyalist assassin Michael Stone, it posits that “from a loyalist perspective, Stone’s Milltown raid was hailed as a bold tit-for-tat response to IRA aggression, enhancing his status as an icon of defiance and boosting morale among Protestant extremists” while “republican assessments, however, framed the attack as indiscriminate terrorism against civilians”.

It claims that “mainstream reporting, while factually recounting events, occasionally reflects institutional biases favoring narratives of loyalist aggression”."

The myopic parochialism of domestic news reporting on this conflict is hugely frustrating I think - not an inability to see the big picture, but an obsessive focus on the small picture, and absolutely no attempt to communicate how exceptional this is. That the conflict is illegal *on US terms*.

‘It means missile defence on data centres’: drone strikes raises doubts over Gulf as AI superpower Iran’s targeting of commercial datacentres in the UAE and Bahrain signals a new frontier in asymmetric warfare It is believed to be a first: the deliberate targeting of a commercial datacentre by the armed forces of a country at war. At 4.30am on Sunday morning, an Iranian Shahed 136 drone struck an Amazon Web Services datacentre in the United Arab Emirates, setting off a devastating fire and forcing a shutdown of the power supply. Further damage was inflicted as attempts were made to suppress the flames with water. Continue reading...
