I have a very long academic cv and did a lot of interdisciplinary work, which makes it hard to move because it's not one narrowly defined field. Canada is unlikely to accept Mati, he is too disabled for their immigration laws :(

My state. I don't even know what to do while it's business as usual for almost everyone else here. But yes, if anyone knows of a creative writing/SFF or disability studies academic jobs in CA or elsewhere where we will have rights, this is a good time to DM me. Thanks.
thank you. This makes sense.
this is great. Thank you.
A small zine with info for newcomers to Tacoma Wa including queer community connections, healthcare, and food and housing resources
Not sure if youβre looking at OR or WA specifically, and itβs not a relocation resource specifically, but some folks I know made a zine to welcome queer folks to Tacoma, WA. Thereβs also linktr.ee/welcometotacoma which has info on healthcare etc. My kid is on Apple/Medicaid and itβs very good
Thank you for this info. We're both disabled and have a young adult child/ward with a lifelong developmental disability --abandoning our careers, healthcare, his medicaid, supports, etc is terrifying. 3 months does not sound too bad
It's time! Nominations are now open for the 2026 Ursula K. Le Guin Prize for Fiction, which will be given to a work of imaginative fiction, published in 2025, that reflects the concepts and ideas that were central to Ursulaβs own work.
thank you, I appreciate it. It would help me personally if you know how long the wait times are for Medicaid decisions for disabled people in OR right now, for those who had Medicaid elsewhere. Are there any options for stopgap medical care while waiting. Thank you
Hi, thank you for that. It sounds like you volunteer/work for this org - could you please tell me what your capacity is - I just saw you have one staffer and I'm concerned that if I boost, you will be flooded. Lots of need right now.
PSA wrt suggestions: please do not suggest organizations in this thread unless you are in Kansas and/or have first hand knowledge that the org you are suggesting helps trans Kansans right now.
It's extremely discouraging to contact an org in your hour of need and hear back nothing, or be misled.
Hi, I have no information that this organization provides emergency rides or other mutual aid to trans Kansans affected by SB 244. Unless you are in Kansas and have first hand knowledge that this organization helps trans Kansans right now, this is not the right thread for the link. Thanks
I want to say again that relocation can't be the only solution. Many of us have communities, families, jobs here. Cost of living is more affordable than in most blue states. Relocation help is good, but many want or need to stay. People need help surviving this law - rides, DMV fees.
Thread from last night. I live in KS. It is a state with a small population (just under 3 million). There is a vibrant LGBTQIA+ life here, but resources can be scarce, and a lot of awfulness happened quickly. I will be adding to the thread when I have more information.
I am going to link again to LGBTQ KS. While I do not know them myself, my friends vouch for them. LGBTQ KS are raising money to help fund the cost of replacement driver's licenses and birth certificates. They are coordinating rides to the DMV and connecting people with resources. lgbtqks.org
My friends in Wichita recommended LGBTQ KS (already linked above) as well as M-Care Healthcare mcarehc.com
My anonymous friend says: "M-Care Healthcare is also a main hub for all things LGBTQIA+ in Wichita. They are always on the front lines, including going to the capitol to provide testimony."
Equality Kansas - this org has done a lot of good work in the state, especially at the legislature level. They have a fund to help trans Kansans with additional expenses after SB 244, rides, meals, etc. They have a mutual aid fund and will also put you in touch with people in need.
eqks.org
Right now, relocation assistance is only part of the equation. Equally if not more urgently needed are local rides, since people whose ids have been invalidated can't legally drive. Also, guess what, the DMV will charge you a full fee for reissuing your ID with the wrong/compliant markers
shitty times :(
LGBTQKS - I do not know them personally but heard good things. They are a nonprofit, have a mutual aid fund and are taking assistance requests.

I will start close to home with the Lawrence Trans Coalition. This is here in Lawrence, KS. They are known to me personally and have a mutual aid fund. Paypal www.paypal.com/paypalme/tra...
Their Linktree - you can see what they are doing, including wrt SB244 linktr.ee/translawrenc...
I am going to link to organizations that I know for sure are helping trans Kansans. This thread will develop slowly as I either know people or will vet them.
At this point we have not heard from anyone being helped via relocation resources. These exist, but I assume they are overwhelmed.
Today is our 10th wedding anniversary with @bogiperson.bsky.social . Still very much in love and enjoying our lives together despite the trashfire and some people not even wanting us to have a marriage, or any other rights.
Back after shabbes. Why do those people always start wars on shabbes. Please don't tell me, I don't want to know.
Thanks to folks who are checking in. We are hanging in there (as much as it's possible) but this is awful. I am hopeful this law will be struck down, though how soon idk.
much love. What a shitshow of a world this is. Hope you are hanging in there
I'm sorry I've been awol. this is awful.
It will come. I know it.
thank you π I miss being in OR where we did not need to worry about being dehumanized on the daily :(

It's been a busy and stressful time, and tomorrow is also our 10th year marriage anniversary with @bogiperson.bsky.social . The world's been awful, but we are still so happy to be together.
Hang in there, all. The dawn is never far away, as I wrote in a book at a different time.
on a separate note, thanks to everyone who checked in. We have a plan B in place at this point, but I really, really do not want to be displaced yet again. With our disabled young adult child everything is harder - Medicaid eligibility is via the state, so if we move, he loses his supports.
I just realized that the Nebula voting closes tomorrow. I haven't been around much because of, well. In any case I hope you consider my @strangehorizons.bsky.social poem "The Blanket, the Secret, the Dark." strangehorizons.com/wordpress/po...
