Ockhamβs razor, @russohockey.bsky.social : you donβt want politics in hockey, donβt attend the state of the union as a hockey player. I know you didnβt get a chance to watch, but take a look at the highlights and ask yourself if the president may be contributing to political divisiveness.
Thank you so much for this piece Matt. Well said.
Decidedly better than Bishop Barron's (Winona) letter: www.ncregister.com/cna/bishop-b...
If you do not think that the basic dignity of the Minnesotans who read your articles and listen to your podcasts is a relevant concern here, then I encourage you to make that clear to us.
I find it astounding that you cannot understand that. I suggest you consider re-evaluating how your personal friendship may be affecting your public communication about this.
As a public figure who chose to inappropriately use his massive audience to convey his political views, this is a very reasonable expectation from KFANs listeners.
But he fell short. He deserved the initial criticism, and his tepid apology deserves it again.
We want him to express a basic respect for the dignity of Minnesotans who have been harassed, intimidated, assaulted, killed by ICE over the past weeks, acting with complete imputiny, and for those who are protesting, marching and blowing whistles to communicate their disgust about that violence.
You asked: "Want him strung up from KFANβs building? Suspended for a month? Fired? Wiped off the planet? What will make you and all you other perfect people feel better?"
The answer: No.
Posted this on The Athletic, but thought I'd share it here too:
I saw your plea on twitter to give Paul Allen a break for his comments about paid protestors.
As someone who voiced my criticism to KFAN I want to respond to your plea, but I refuse to use twitter.
The Kimmel video: "The MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them, and doing everything they can to score political points from it."
i would like my government supervisors to know that i now think slim fit is good, dress sneakers are great, and "fun socks" are cool
Yesterday I wrote about how Turning Point put many of us on the Professor Watchlist
What I didn't write about was the years of harassment from the right, including rape, deportation & death fantasies that played out in my messages, comments in the stories about me & voice mails. Thatβs his legacy.

The article on SLAPP suits I penned for Australian Quarterly, looking at the growing trend of legal bullying by corporations and calling for strong anti-SLAPP laws in Australia, is now available in full on the Greenpeace website, republished with permission.

@philpaiement.bsky.social and @cohelongo.bsky.social show how the ICJ advisory opinions removed crucial barriers and point out where more work is needed to hold States accountable for their impacts on the global climate

We discuss how it has consolidated norms around the 1.5 maximum warming threshold, production-side regulatory obligations, and climate reparations.
Yesterday, the @voelkerrechtsblog.org published a piece by @cohelongo.bsky.social and I commenting on the ICJ's climate change adivsory opinion : voelkerrechtsblog.org/strengthenin...
Late July, but the Anthropocene group at Tilburg Law School are still together, live streaming the ICJ advisory opinion on climate change.
I actually believe we can have nice things. Homes, and neighborhoods, food on the table, free time. A planet to live on. Theater and dance, and guitar that will break your heart. The trick is, we just have to keep fighting for them because some people want servants, too.
The UNFCCC has long decided that climate change and biodiversity loss are linked and require enhanced cooperation between CBD, UNCCD and UNFCCC as called for in the Global Stocktake says )

@eckes-uva.bsky.social and I wrote a @verfassungsblog.de post on the silencing effect of the Energy Transfer v Greenpeace lawsuit before the N. Dakota court which resulted in a finding of $660 million of damages for Energy Transfer, one of the principal companies behind the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Some of the first early access pieces of 2025 are published on our webpage, including two great pieces in an upcoming special issue on the Rights of Corporations in the Technocene, edited by Jaakko Salminen and Eduardo Gill-Pedro.
#TeslaTakedown is so successful, Trump wants to label protesters "domestic terrorists."
The US-Europe split continues to widen in new and unprecedented ways: βNorwegian fuel company Haltbakk Bunkers has announced it will cease supplying fuel to U.S. military forces in Norway and American ships docking in Norwegian ports, citing dissatisfaction with recent U.S. policy towards Ukraine.β

Senator Tina Smith said: This is the ultimate dick boss move from Musk - except he isnβt even the boss, heβs just a dick. That was in response to Musk saying βConsistent with President @realDonaldTrump's instructions, all federal employees will shortly receive an email requesting to understand what they got done last week. Failure to respond will be taken as a resignation.β Musk responded @SenTinaSmith βWhat did you get done last week?β
Elon, I hate to break it to you but you arenβt my boss. I answer to the people of Minnesota.
But since you bring it up, I spent last week fighting to stop tax breaks for billionaires like you, paid for by defunding health care for moms and babies
