Metaphorically occupying a spot in the foyer. In the building, but staying aware of, and close to, the exits. Ask me about the scratchy wall covering.

At any rate, I replied, added the shipper to the To: line, moved the HR person to the CC: line, and asked the shipper if they could pass the tracking number along to me so I could watch out for the package.

You're not getting out of this email string that easily.

They responded to tell me another coworker shipped it and that I could follow up with them for the shipping info.

That's a little strange, right? Why wouldn't they just add that person to the email string and ask them to pass the info along to me? Why make me ask again?

Another day, another strange email interaction with coworkers.

HR was supposed to have sent me a package to my home a couple weeks ago. It never arrived. I asked about it and they said they'd check the tracking and ship me another. I asked for the new tracking info so I could watch out for it.

Today's U.S. jobs report is out. I made this chart showing total jobs added/lost (non-farm) going back to 2024, and separated out the federal jobs added/lost to highlight the impact of DOGE.

Remember when the church would print "Teachings of the Presidents of the Church" books and you'd study one president for the year in EQ or RS?

Folks: a reminder that tonight I'm hosting a LIVE discussion with @leahsottile.bsky.social. We'll dig into the varieties of Mormon extremism in the recent decades--you know, all the groups that have been the focus of so many HULU, HBO, and Netflix documentaries. It should be fun. (In a morbid way.)

my first book (2020) was about online neonazis and my second book (2024) was about christian theocrats. they gained strength, voltronned and became a government. my third book (2027) is going to be a history of notable sandwiches so i hope this means we will be governed by sandwichocracy

I call on Elon to prove reading his algorithmic feed on X is safe.

I call on Meta to prove that wearing their cameras on eyewear is safe.

I call on RFK Jr. to prove that working out in denim jeans is safe.

(see how this can work?)

I'm old enough to have a copy of Preach My Gospel peppered with "investigator" terminology throughout. I haven't checked exhaustively, but I think they've completely scrubbed it out of the current version.

This is the precautionary principle in action folks. It can be weaponized against anything you don't like. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Precaut...

Hey this is tonight!

04.03.2026 16:18 πŸ‘ 15 πŸ” 7 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

The particular email that prompted this was one where I asked for confirmation of something. Does the thumbs up mean "confirmed," or "thanks for asking, I'll look into it and get back to you," or "that's a good question, someone else is looking into that," or ...?

03.03.2026 19:26 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

If the response can be simply "thanks" I would rather just not get a response at all if that's all that is warranted.

03.03.2026 19:26 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Dear Microsoft. Please remove reactions from Outlook. A thumbs up on an email gives me nothing I need from the person I sent the email to. They should know better, yes ... but also, they shouldn't have the option. Stop enabling them.

Thank you.

Amen.

(Better than any of the testimonies I heard yesterday ... sounds more delicious too)

If you live in Davis County, Utah, go to burrn.org and check whether your signature is listed. If it is and you don’t support gerrymandering, take steps to remove it according to the instructions at that website.

Somebody should check in with UT Sen. Mike Lee, see if he’s doing ok. See if he needs someone to talk to or something.

I realize the way I wrote my responses above it makes it sound like I'm one of these same people who thought they'd only deport "the criminals" etc.

I'm not. I'm confessing that I didn't think they'd go as hard as they have been. I thought they'd try to be more strategic to keep public support.

27.02.2026 18:26 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Kudos for catching that.

27.02.2026 18:16 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I was glancing at that earlier thinking similarly. The option for when a law is struck down as unconstitutional is to change the constitution to allow it, not whatever this bill is.

Which, ok, they pass this bill and then the court strikes it down as unconstitutional ... then what?

27.02.2026 18:15 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Thought they would be smart enough(?) to realize that deporting all the people actually working would tank the economy when no one is doing those jobs anymore because they can't pay legal workers enough.

I never questioned their racism, I just didn't realize it was white nationalism the whole time.

27.02.2026 17:45 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I didn't think the "mass deportations now" thing would play out the way it has. I honestly thought it would be used more as a threat and the result would be part more exploitation for undocumented workers, and part making examples of employers ratted out by their trump-supporting competitors.

Family in the neighborhood a while back (long since moved away) who named their daughter Eda, or Eida. I forget how it was spelled, but sounds like EE-da. They didn't realize that is so very close to any teenage boy's mind like "Eat a ..."

Their last name is Johnson.

I feel so sorry for her.
