A page of text which reads: Why? (Or Why Now?) Why have I chosen to create this sort of book now? Well there are several reasons. First, and perhaps most importantly, there is always room in this world for more books about dragons - at least I think so! But there is more to it than that. Over the past couple of years there has been a huge proliferation of Al-generated images. The technology is now available to everyone, and it is rapidly overwhelming the online space. Dragons of the Dwindling is a metaphor for the dwindling of human-made art. A world without art would be as diminished as a world without dragons. Both deserve to be cherished and preserved.

A page of text which reads: So let me be clear: I do not use generative Al for my work. I never have. I never will. I believe that creativity is one of the most fundamental aspects of being human, and that generative Al has no place in the arts. Along with countless thousands of other artists, my work was used, without my consent, as training-data for generative Al. Whilst there is very little I can do about that, I can use my voice, my work, and this project, to advocate for human-made art. That is why I have chosen to revert to traditional pencil drawings for this book, rather than the more realistic digital work for which I am better known.
