I just generally think the antidote to dooming and feelings of helplessness is getting involved in any way. It can be as a poll worker, doing ICE watch, running for local office, helping with mutual aid, whatever.

You can get so much accomplished in your town or city if you just get involved.

many people are going to be tempted to say this proves the weakness of peaceful protest. this is incorrect because it assumes this happening is a failure of peaceful protest rather than the mechanism by which it succeeds

insisting on calling every mass day of protest or one-day boycott a "general strike" is not the move. it's good to see people rallying around the cause, it matters, but if you want to be part of a large-scale labor action that shuts down the gears of capital, start by unionizing your workplace!!!

It's counterintuitive, but people thrive on believing awful things. Take it from someone who is often told (in her private life) that she's catastrophising. I know what these spirals are like from the inside.

They're awful, but they're addictive because they give you the illusion of mastery.

My experience with my Local has been that we just don't have capacity to engage with people on social media past posting πŸ₯² we've only recently started allocating staff time to comms so it's not completely volunteer-driven. Hoping that means we can have someone on point for social media engagement

O’Keefe was put into another vehicle with three agents. She says they started taunting and mocking her, and called her ugly.

β€œThe ICE agent who had pepper sprayed into the vents of my car said β€˜you guys gotta stop obstructing us, that’s why that lesbian bβ€”β€” is dead,’ verbatim, speaking of Renee Good. Which filled me with absolute rage and shock that you could say that to one of her neighbors,” she said.

They were brought to the Whipple Building and released after eight hours. They weren’t charged for a crime. SigΓΌenza said he was brought to a room with agents from the Department of Homeland Security and asked to provide the names of people he knows that are undocumented or the names of protest organizers in exchange for money or legal protection.

We are so far beyond "show us your papers." They don't want to see the papers. We are now into the "give us the names" stage of the occupation.

oldhead advice from an oldhead.

every couple years, newcomers to the movement think "THIS is finally it, the moment when the dam breaks and the whole system is overthrown"

and when it doesn't happen they lose patience and get disillusioned and drop out of movement work

gotta build for long term

The basic sequence of the ICE shooting in Minneapolis on Wednesday is not in dispute: A Honda Pilot reversed, then moved forward; an ICE agent was close to the vehicle; the agent fired shots. A 37-year-old woman was killed.

But that sequence has been interpreted in radically different ways. Was the officer struck by the vehicle, as President Trump insists, or did the car pass by or around him? Was he positioned in front of the vehicle or to the side? Did he have a genuine, reasonable fear for his life in that moment, or did he create the very danger he then used lethal force to escape?

If we only had some trusted institution that could adjudicate between competing claims by relying on facts.

1) every RPG should have a story mode
2) story modes should not include fighting or platforming mechanics

"Voters know this trick where we justify regime change by talking about how bad the dictator was, they won't fall for it..."

My guy, we just went through an election where everyone across the political spectrum had mass amnesia about a guy who was president literally four years ago.

the water thing about genAI is bullshit but the thing where it makes on-demand nudes and CSAM isn't and the thing where it talks you into killing yourself isn't and those seem pretty bad

Remember:

When Tylenol was poisoned *by an outsider* and killed people, the company recalled all their products & redesigned them.

When Intel’s Pentium had a bug so obscure it affected 1 in _9 billion_ long division calculations, they recalled their chips.

ChatGPT was made deadly *by its team*.
