I have this sneaking suspicion that the problem is not really the POV itself so much as the "I don't ever want to have to engage any brain cells whatsoever or encounter anything even slightly unfamiliar" attitude that it seems like quite a large contingent of readers have these days.

Okay, look, readers have preferences, literary tastes adn dominant paradigms are always in a state of change, whatever, but maybe if you don't like worldbuilding, fantasy is not actually the genre you should be reading?
