Michael Pollan explains why AI will never replicate human consciousness
Michael Pollan tells Scientific American why the science of consciousness may ultimately be too subject to our own conscious minds to crack
This stuff is so cool. I find the lack of scientific, philosophical & poetic acumen of the tech bro community so tragic, really. We always want to know the unknowable but really thereβs so much aliveness in the unpredictable truth. www.scientificamerican.com/article/mich...

For years, employees acknowledged a problem with potential child groomers, but prioritized growth over fixes.
Even as Mark Zuckerberg insisted that his company was doing everything it could to protect children, Meta was internally divided about whether to prioritize kidsβ safety over platform growth, Kaitlyn Tiffany and Michael Scherer report.

The only way I know how to survive darkness is to keep moving, to keep searching intentionally for beauty & to be grateful for whatever safety I have in any given moment understanding it is impermanent & bittersweet. I know this doesnβt seem like much but some days itβs everything.

I think about this a lot. If the world was ending tomorrow, what would you want today to feel like? I know thatβs really dark but itβs also valid given what weβre experiencing. For me, itβs a good breakfast sandwich & a long walk in the sun. Keep going, in many ways thereβs nothing else to do.

I wrote this in 2022. Hate that itβs still relevant. The news is scary & heartbreaking & there are bad actors working online to hack your nervous system and keep you scared. Itβs rebellion to rest, to focus on what you can control. Itβs okay to put your phone down. medium.com/@sophienadea...

Try not to despair. On other channels, where the young women are, there is fury & hope & planning. Perhaps the movement doesnβt look the way we recognize but i promise itβs there & itβs often showing up every time a woman interacts with a man. Things are changing.
