It is 2026... for the millionth time: FORCING PEOPLE INTO TREATMENT DOESN'T WORK, THIS IS NOT PUBLIC HEALTH, FULL STOP.

We have to stop infantilizing substance use and refusing to allow people who use drugs to have autonomy. Fake courts (how is that legal..) to force people into tx is not the move

Collins: Treatment first best strategy for Mass and Cass No matter the neighborhood, one concern rises above the rest. Quality of life complaints tied to the ongoing drug and human trafficking crisis come in every single day. At the center of it all is M…

So tired of politicians thinking they know what is best - β€œtreatment first” aka forced treatment is not the correct strategy and increases the risk of death for PWUD. Politicians need to listen to actual public health experts and stay in their damn lane.

Access to water - especially as warm weather begins rolling in - is a human right.

No one should restrict access to water, food, harm reduction supplies, socks, underwear……..

Really weird when a city frames giving out water and food as causing harm to unhoused folks and leading them to not access shelters… I can confidently say that is not why people don’t access shelters and no one is getting three meals a day out on the ave….

When poor policy equals literal death, that is not the time to be quiet.

There is a time and place for quiet advocacy, but when death is the consequence, at some point people need to start holding people accountable publicly too.

I can't get over the fact that @wcvb5.bsky.social edited out/clipped this video in a way to erase the people protesting right outside behind Wu.

The media stays complicit, alongside Wu, in the deaths of our loved ones, and paints a false picture that the mayor's new policy is widely supported.

Boston leaders pledge to clean up area of city known for rampant drug use Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, along with other city officials, held a roundtable discussion with business owners and residents Wednesday after concerns were raised about the ongoing drug use in the Downto...

Im gonna say this loudly for everyone in the back πŸ“’ forcing people into treatment has been proven to not only be ineffective but also increases risk of death. #bospoli don’t pretend this is about helping people

It’s cool how as temperatures dropped to frigid levels, instead of opening up the already built multimillion dollar building meant for unhoused individuals with ✨heat✨ they put up more police fences 😐

Getting emotional going through this memory box. COVID really was the worst and in some ways best of times, the community built and lovingly maintained in the COVID tents, the encampment, the comfort stations… yeah things could and should have been better but didn’t mean my days lacked love or joy.

A whistle in the authors hand

A whistle in the authors hand

Cleaning out boxes of memories, found my old whistle from when the city set up the fun β€œcomfort stations” where people could use but only built one entrance, so we used an old school method of calling out codes/safety events from the far end of station. 2020 was an interesting moment in time.

Thinking about all of the people lost this year, so much preventable death. Also of all those surviving tonight, especially here in Boston where it currently feels like 5 F, it’s not even the dead of night yet. The solstice is a time of remembrance & recommitment, things don’t have to be this way.

The irony of receiving a letter asking me to support a police mutual aid group for Brookline (of all towns) while the police regularly make upward of 100 thousand > me in OT in MA. I know where I won’t be donating to this holiday.

Who you should donate to is:

State lawmakers drop supervised injection sites from compromise substance use bill Controversial idea was a main sticking point between Senate and House negotiators.

And the state of Massachusetts, our so called representatives, continue to actively participate in allowing preventable deaths to occur by not supporting or passing legislation shown world wide to save lives. Surprised I am not, heartbroken I continue to be.

A hill I would happily perish on is every bathroom should be public.

If not, then peeing in public shouldn’t be illegal or we should have public bathrooms everywhere. Also I’d like to add that being able to use a bathroom when necessary is important to one’s health on many levels…

Someone special to me who is in recovery, I used to be in awe/confusion of his many hobbies and obsessions and as I sit inside my jungle of an apt because the plant buying has reached an all time high, after the aquarium obsession, art supplies surplus and Cricut phase, I’m beginning to understand….

Feeling an odd sense of grief over transitioning away from my tweet world - my acct chronicled so much of my journey understanding who I was as an advocate, a harm reductionist, a person in long term change (grateful for this framing!) and a budding clinician. Excited to cont the journey here tho!
