Just finished Michael D. Kennedy’s graphic novel MILK WHITE STEED. It’s genius magic realism storytelling and art — mixing Caribbean folk tales with migration to England, and the woodcut style reminds me so much of graphic art pioneer Frans Masereel from the earlier part of the 20th century. 💛

⛸️ It’s been a joy to see Team USA, Team Japan, Kazakhstan’s Mikhail Shaidorov, and so many other figure skaters be so happy and kind to each other. Such great sportsmanship in a historically mean and unforgiving sport.

⛸️ I’ve never watched figure skaters at the Olympics without feeling anxiety over their jumps, etc. Alysa Liu is the first who is so mentally healthy that I’m relaxed watching her. When she says she’s doing it for the joy and the medals come second, I believe her. An inspiration.

I’m really curious whether the Trump administration would launch a war against Iran before or after the inaugural meeting of the “Board of Peace.”

And like Silicon Valley, one of them was willing to shed allegiances to the country that made her career possible in order to compromise with a nakedly totalitarian state for the sake of increased profits.

Everyone on here is so focused on the China v. US angle to the Olympians Eileen Gu and Alysa Liu but each is also so on brand repping Silicon Valley v. Oakland.

⬇️ By the way this whole Chinese New Year v. Lunar New Year debate can be solved by just calling it New Year. And that’d also cover Tết, Tsagaan Sar, Losar., et al.

We are quickly moving past "will there be a war" and into "what kind of war will it be" territory. What US chooses to strike in the first 48 hours will set the tone here.

So judging by my timeline, more or less everything with wings is currently being moved to the Middle East?
