For the people who try to say Canadians and Americans have the same culture

Maybe just maybe neglecting Ukraine wasn’t such a good idea

When your energy prices go up this year thank your local CDU politicians!

02.03.2026 19:56 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

Lovely to see how fast the energy plans from the CDU have shown themselves to be not only idiotic but completely irresponsible and a national security risk. What an embarrassment

I’m holding onto the slim hope that eventually the industry wakes up to the economic suicide and gets their lackeys in the CDU to change course

I mean, the gas turbines that they want for their plans aren’t even available for purchase in the amounts they need; the waitlist is over 5 years long and every manufacturer is booked up!

It’s been quite soul crushing, hasn’t it.
In a world where our gas suppliers have become extremely unreliable, and renewables + battery has become the clear front runner for plentiful and affordable energy, our government has doubled down on gas dependency.

Hey asshole! I’m mad about all of it! we should all be fucking furious about all of it. They are fucking killing people. Where’s the goddamn distraction in that for Christ’s sake

28.02.2026 14:13 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

It’s crazy how often people will pull out the it’s just a distraction when the neighboring war mongering country home to the most powerful military in the world is threatening your sovereignty as a distraction to whatever other scandal they just cooked up.

Why can’t people walk and chew bubblegum at the same time. What’s so hard about “ all of these actions by this awful government are individually terrible and I will consider them all when judging them”

So far all I’ve seen has been the big players beg for protectionism and stymie any sort of effort to make the necessary changes to modernize. The next couple decades are going to be very interesting

German industry has rested on its laurels for far too long, and now China has come and is taking our lunch money. I’m interested to see if the added pressure will spur some innovation and competition, breathing some life back into German industry

28.02.2026 13:44 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

I feel like the was true, but not anymore. Not that Germany isn’t still an industrial powerhouse, but many of its core industries have failed to adapt and are now being left behind. Just look at the embarrassment that’s been the auto industry’s response to EVs.

Except classical musicians (Germany’s actually still one of the best places for that).Which, now that I think of it, is a pretty good metaphor for where the country is at.Just playing the same old songs over and over; no need for anything new, we already know what’s best. It’s what we’ve always done

It feels bizarre that this is the same country that not too long ago was one of the centers of the world for musical creativity. Now if you are a musician that’s starting to have some success one of the first things you do is leave

It feels painted over so much of our cultural landscape too. It seems increasingly rare that any music, tv show, movie, book produced in Germany that actually tries something new breaks into mainstream culture. Most television seems produced solely for retirees to enjoy on ARD or ZDF

I think you are mostly right ( I share your bias). Unfortunately Germany has (to me at least) been feeling more and more like a place where big ideas and creativity goes to die.

Weil wir das schon immer so gemacht haben 🤪

28.02.2026 12:51 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Not too much disagreement from me there, however I don’t think that’s a uniquely German problem. What I’m more wondering is why does Germany seem to fall behind peers in regards to: new technology adoption, structural reforms, and the planning and completion of new infrastructure projects

28.02.2026 12:40 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Any theories on why Germany seems to be uniquely awful in implementing any kind of new technological rollouts? The longer I live here the madder I become at the either blatant corruption or weaponized incompetence (god forbid the ever more common combo of both) of the German political class

Good thing the chancellor didn’t spend the last few years spreading disinformation and demonizing the technology slowing down uptake

The thought that what he thoughtlessly blurts might actually have an impact (sometimes even causing international scandals) seems completely foreign to him

Merz is one of the most tactless politicians I’ve ever seen. He seems truly incapable of not putting his foot in his mouth when he speaks. Whether it’s Stadtbild, Insulting Brazil, his Walter Lübcje comments, FCAS, or even his new comments about promising too much in the election campaign

21.02.2026 15:37 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Says the man who is one of Germany‘s greatest culture war provocateurs. It would be nice for Merz to back his word with actions, as it stands now I’d sooner entrust a seagull to watch over my dinner than to believe in anything Merz says.
