A great new podcast with Kareem Khalifa from UCLA, who will join Pitt, HPS in Fall 2027! We talk about scientific understanding and of the role of misunderstanding in scientific progress. #philsci
AIPAC sure got their moneyβs worth from these 4 Dems today
Pretty compelling piece overall on who might be best positioned to finally bring the Democratic Party's leadership closer to its own base on Israel-Palestine. I don't necessarily agree with the conclusion but I think it demonstrates a serious thinking we need in the lead-up to 2028.
I spoke with two ICE watchers who lost their Global Entry after brushes with federal agents. Now an internal memo shows Customs and Border Protection is evaluating cases where people's Global Entry could be revoked based on "encounters" with its officers.

Israeli map showing all of southern Lebanon in red with yellow arrows pointing to north of the Litani river
The IDF just ordered the *entirety of south Lebanon* to be forcibly displaced.
They are emptying the land of its population, creating a massive crisis, and will now proceed to further annihilate large parts of Lebanon.
The very nation state of Lebanon is being destroyed.
Good riddance.
The corrupt AIPAC dems. The blood of Iranians is on their hands
Small ask, huge impact: this initiative is partnered with psychologists from Gaza to bring six days of therapy & more to Palestinian kids formerly in occupation detention.

Blog post on a new paper (w/@dingdingpeng.the100.ci & @statmodeling.bsky.social) reflecting on the value of multiverse analysis 10 years in.
Like many attempts at science reform, it provides clear conceptual value but is tricky to theorize & can even be counterproductive if taken too seriously
these people are monsters
have a lookat this great video by Center Fellows Laurenz Casser. I plan to chat with him about the metaphysics and the science of pain on the podcast Conversations at the Center in the coming weeks.
Yes absolutely! The post I linked too made a related caveat. That said, if you take into account conservative religious views would you expect something very different
Not unrelate to my post earlier about a majority of Americans having abhorrent moral views.
Abolish death sentence
A screenshot of an RStudio window. On the left-hand side is a new pain called Posit Assistant. The Posit Assistant had recently run code making a lat-lon plot of Washington state, colored by whether the point had been marked as forested or not.
Today we're releasing AI for RStudio. It's really, really goodβI'd encourage you to point it at the messiest data sources you have and see what it can do.

well i mean, they are not wrong... half of the USA, at least, has terrible moral views.
scandalous if true
Part one of a new blog series: using the discovery of vitamins as a parable for why replication crises in science are actually good.
Listen to this guy...something is seriously wrong that they're not telling us.
an interesting question: what form should a normative thoery takes. Here is an intro to the topic, free to download for two weeks
The canvas() function from the ggview R package is very useful for previewing/tweaking a ggplot into publication-ready format: it renders a plot "as it would appear if saved to a file with the specified dimensions".

Big Team Science projects like ManyBabies work best if many people contribute, you can get involved here: manybabies.org/get_involved/ or reach out to @hbaum.bsky.social
Then they compared their results to a traditional meta-analysis and MetaLab's community-augmented meta-analysis (langcog.github.io/metalab/), finding that the replications had much more homogeneous effect sizes and different moderators. (sorry, all of these slides are really exciting)

Yet another piece of evidence that political advertising has very little impact on political attitudes. This time on social media.
IsraΓ«l and the USA are bombing hospitals schools and police stations in Iran. Trajet are killing hundreds.
