Most kind. Mine get lavished with care and attention ๐
Very nice.
Thank you. I do grow a diverse range of genera. Primarily cool growing, terrestrials, and Pleuros. However, I have an interest in anything elegant, unusual, or different subconsciously.
First bloom on my Ophrys speculum [Link, 1799], a Mediterranean/Iberian terrestrial orchid. It is pollinated by a male Dasyscolia ciliata wasp. Males are lured by the flower, which mimics the female wasp as part of Pouyannian mimicry #Orchidaceae
An orange theme today with Lantana, Spathodea campanulata (African Tulip tree), lots of Pyrostegia (Flamevine) starting to open and Aloe looking out to seaโฆ #SharingMadeira ๐งก๐ฑ

YouTube video showing the pollinarium ejection mechanism for a Catasetum Elizabeth Wills.
Videos A and E show the pollinarium being catapulted from the flower. In video C the anther cap is removed to reveal the pollinia.
Second flowering this season of Catasetum Elizabeth Wills, despite the often low light levels outdoors. More of these exotic looking blooms this time, again with a fragrance of spearmint + a hint of spice #Orchidaceae
#SevenOnSunday Zygopetalum ๐ค (including a Jumping Jack for a certain someone I canโt find on hereโฆ @uk-boothby.bsky.social @wolf71758.bsky.social )

Happy Christmas ๐
Happy Christmas โญ
There's always one ๐คฃ
Festive looking Pleione Barcena

A winter flowering hybrid orchid #Orchidaceae
Many thanks ๐
Masdevallia velifera (Rchb.f 1874) a welcome distraction on a stormy day. This 'Veiled Masdevallia' is native to the cloud forests of ๐จ๐ด . For me, the malodorous fragrance is only really discernable when the blooms first open #Orchidaceae
Large flowered hybrid Restrepia Houlisse (R. guttulata x R. Havre de Rozel), including a close-up of one of the cirri. Scale is included in the cyanotype image of a pressed bloom (20 min. exposure to UV) #Orchidaceae
As Christmas trees go up ๐ฒ, there's a different sort of excitement with my Catasetum Elizabeth Wills about to flower for the second time this year. Hopeful of a further beautiful display in my first year growing this genus #Orchidaceae
Yes ๐
Habenaria tridactylites Lindl., also known as the Three Fingered Habenaria, a terrestrial orchid native to the Canary Islands #Orchidaceae
Reliable hybrid back in bloom, Aliceara Renaissance White, an intergeneric orchid hybrid between three genera (Brassia ร Miltonia ร Oncidium) #Orchidaceae
First flowering of my small
Phalaenopsis pulcherrima var. marmorata (O.Gruss) O.Gruss & W.E.Higgins, an orchid variety native to Laos, with elegant stippled leaves #Orchidaceae
My Tuberolabium quisumbingii (L.O. Williams) Christenson, an orchid native to Luzon in the Philippines, with a wonderful floral-almond fragrance #Orchidaceae
I agree with you. People can interpret scent differently, and I believe it can be a variable species. However it definitely smells of mango to me.
Fragrance of tropical fruits
Thank you, love the lemon highlights too
First flowering of my Phalaenopsis tetraspis f. alba (O.Gruss & Koop.), a fragrant and elegant species native to Sumatra, the Andaman Islands and Nicobar islands #Orchidaceae
