Ian Mond's review of Absolution over at Locus. locusmag.com/2024/11/abso...
What a cracking review of issue 11 of ParSec Magazine! Especially pleasing to see @ruthejbooth.bsky.social's brilliant immigration parable The Invitation getting the plaudits it deserves.
I donβt know about you, but Iβm afraid to throw out, bury, burn, or dismember dolls, all because of horror movies.
I drew this cartoon of my brother and me (as their ratty avatars) back when I was in grad school in Wisconsin and he was in grad school in Arizona. It was a gift for my mom and she had it on her office wall in Connecticut for years. Recently unearthed, and Iβve put it up on my office wall at work.
Image: A bedroom at night, a face is lit up by the glow of a phone screen displaying cat memes. On the book-cluttered bedside table, three books look on angrily. The lead book waves a large knife and says: "Nobody needs to get hurt... Let's just put the phone down, nice and slowly..." Caption: Bedside reading pile turns nasty

Nyt two page spread for my novel Absolution includes the review with surreal graphic, sidebar of NK Jemisin's original review of Authority, and a profile piece with me, including black and white photo of me out in the marsh.
Wow. Full two-page spread for Absolution and my profile in the New York Times Book Review today. Amazing.
Best heading yet about my labβs recent research publication on the corpse flower!

New - and ever more crucial report - on carceral AI, a growing class of algorithmic and data-driven practices designed to police, incarcerate, surveil, and control people.
Recommendations, report, and beautiful artwork too!
