Picture of a child holding a toy burger. Text reads: Tell me your childhood obsessions! When I was a child, I was obsessed with...
Freddie Mercury: One night when I was about six I couldnโt sleep so I went downstairs, where I found my parents watching the Freddie Mercury tribute concert. They let me stay up and watch the whole thing (a big treat), and I fell in love...
The Famous Five: Adventures, picnics, secret tunnels, hidden rooms, long-lost treasure... I couldnโt get enough.
Ghosts: I really believed in ghosts and was convinced that our house was haunted. See also: Bermuda triangle, vampires, the Mary Celeste, and the Loch Ness monster.
Tell me your childhood obsessions! When I was a child, I was obsessed with so many things. What were your obsessions? Tell me in the comments!
Did you share any of my childhood fixations? If so, you might like my books! Not My Sister comes out March 4th, pre-order here: geni.us/B0G1K5LC13au...
The Titanic: Even before James Cameronโs 1998 film, I was a Titanic obsessive and wrote a very long school report about the disaster
Anne Frank: I read multiple editions of her diary and admired her writing so much. We visited Amsterdam when I was 11 and I cried when we saw her statue
Microsoft Publisher 95/98: I spent hours making websites on MS Publisher. I loved creating the page structure and populating it with pictures and text. There were pages about me, my family, my house and my pets. I never put it online.
Harriet the Spy: As soon as I saw this film, I WAS a spy. I still am.

Oh yeah, totally not another read through for structural issues at copy edit - yes! That would be brutal. Just a read through for typos, continuity etc as there's always something!
Ooh this is interesting! So at what stages DO you do a full readthrough? I didn't do one after my copy edits, but I DID do one after my proofread, and I'm glad I did because I caught quite a bit.
We all know about the em-dash. What other 'tells' have you spotted that heavily suggest something has been written by AI?
I'll start:
"Not X. Not Y. Just Z."

A boy disappeared. Three years later, he came back. But he wasnโt who he said he was.
In 1994, 13-year-old Nicholas Barclay vanished from his Texas neighbourhood. No witnesses. No answers.
Three years later, police called with shocking news. Nicholas had been found. Alive. In Spain.
The family rushed to meet him. They cried. They hugged him. They took him home.

I understand the pressures on the BBC, but Radio 4's coverage of the Minneapolis shooting is an example of "bad balance".
It's all "the Trump regime says she was a terrorist, but Democrats say it was murder".
The BBC has the footage. It doesn't have to treat truth and falsehood as equally valid.
In the city centre today, all refugees welcome, today, tomorrow, always โค๏ธ

But things didnโt add up. His accent was wrong. His eye colour had changed. He didnโt recognise people he should.
Because he wasnโt Nicholas Barclay. He was Frรฉdรฉric Bourdin. A 23-year-old French con artist. And this wasnโt his first impersonation.
So why did the family accept him? Were they fooledโฆ or did they need him to be real?
The truth eventually came out. But the real mystery remains: How far will people go to protect the story they want to believe?

My regular reminder that when a company says they don't have a budget, they mean they don't have a budget FOR YOU.
They most certainly will be paying for other people and services.
I don't know how I know this but seeing this picture reminded me that tennis balls have a taste.
Picture of a wedding dress with a bloody handprint on the skirt. Text reads@ "Every bride has secrets. But hers might just kill you... Are you ready to uncover The Bride's Secret? Five days to go!"

๐จCalling all writers !๐จ
Writing is hard and lonely and scary! And though there are lots of great editorial services something thatโs missing is the ability just to chat things through with someone. Plotting issues, publishing advice, how to start writing a book 1/2
It's publication day for #TheWomanNextDoor & the amazing @janicehallett.bsky.social said 'dark, menacing and beautifully written, with a strong background in the psychology of behaviour, this is an evocative tale of childhood bullying and its consequences.' I'm blown away! @emblabooks.bsky.social
Somehow I've managed to arrange my life so that my car insurance, home insurance and road tax all need to be arranged and paid at the same time. It's an admin nightmare but at least it all gets done at once, I suppose?
haha OK, you do win. Well done!
#TeamEllie: I think I'd prefer the chips ๐
