Speaking on behalf of “other countries”, can confirm. What you’re saying sounds cynical, but it’s truth. 🇨🇦 public opinion has shifted not because we are particularly enlightened, but largely because folks don’t feel safe.
Historically speaking, the advantage of hegemony for other countries other than the hegemon is stability. If the hegemon is unable, there is no advantage for others, and therefore no reason for them to accept hegemony.
