Triceratops skeleton between two T. rex skeletons in a bed of artificial ferns. Photo is taken behind and beneath one of the rexes, so we're looking up through it's lower jaw. Against a blue and purple simulated sky backdrop.
Iβm closing in on 2k followers (thanks!) so I think I should clarify what I mean in my profile when I say the fun dinosaur pictures I post are a form of art history (besides wanting to sound elitist or something). π§΅
"AI is garbage at all the work at doing history, so here's how you should start using it in the classroom." cmon, what are we even doing here??

ACH is collecting information about impacts on research. If your National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) or Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) work has been impacted, or if you anticipate future impacts, let us know.
DOGE has just completely gutted the IMLS, firing all staff, closing down their email addresses, and leaving any funding for 2025 in question.

Yes yes yes yes yes!!!
Ah damnit now I have to find some. For research.
putting that medieval studies degree to use by starting up *Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2*! And hoping it fixes some of the trouble from the first game .... twitch.tv/ludohistory
There's an awful lot of bad stuff happening right now, and I've been increasingly struggling with what good "entertainment" does. So this is less polished and more poetic than most of what I write, but it's my attempt to write my way through that feeling.

Folklorists are really, *really* important - so many traditions we draw on today are only around due to their work. One of those collections needs help now!!
This week, I want to do a thread each day signal boosting creators of different groups, particularly those groups who are being targeted by government.
Today, I would love to hear from Creators of Color.
If you are a CoC and you have a project to push, PLEASE POST BELOW. Include link, please!
This sheep is divine, I will brook no criticism of it
5) 2025's release schedule scares me. It might be the best year for historical games ever (including some really cool games by Indigenous devs and Palestinian devs). And while there's a lot scary in the world right now, I'm still looking forward to that.
4) The dedication to doing the history (even occult/conspiracy) right meant parts of my community were able to guess plots in multiple games, down to the dialogue, quite a bit in advance. This is a credit, not a criticism! That means they're building historically coherent fictions! I love that!
3) There's a dedication to historical research and replicating archival/museum pieces that I don't remember seeing this much in previous years. Sure, Assassin's Creed and Uncharted have always had museum replicas, but Thaumaturge/Indiana Jones went to the next level.
1) Even though 2024 was a terrible year for layoffs, the number of both AAA and indie historical releases was impressive - there were a lot of games I didn't get to this year.
2) a lot of the best games looked globally, instead of just Euro/Eurocolonial history. That's cool too!
2024 was a great year for historical game releases, but we love nothing more than arbitrary rankings! Check out the blog post, and read on for some other of my findings ludohistory.com/2025/01/21/t...
I did, glad you enjoyed it!!
