Trying to find traces of WW2 in Berlin and other places but also interested in other historical remnants. The long-term goal is to the read my city like a book. Usually my own photos. Also into genealogy.

I mean he could finish another war, err, military excursion.
I mean โthroughโ could imply a downward movement. And isnโt the ceiling of the basement akin to a roof?
Hm. Or maybe โBes.โ is short for โBesitzerโ (owner), meaning he took over from his father.
Does this read โBeruf Bes. (Besonderer?) Sohnโ (Profession Special son)? I think the letters are correct but I donโt understand what it means. #Kurrentschrift
Iโve never been to Nice, nor to Baden-Baden!
Would I see (and recognise) my great-uncle if I went through all the Stalingrad photos?
This is Nathan Cavanaugh, another DOGE staffer explaining how he flagged grants at NEH for "DEI" which would be reviewed for termination. 404 Media has reviewed hours of this footage and we'll have more soon.

Due to rising costs, the proposed Exile Museum, meant to commemorate people who had to flee Nazi Germany, will not be built at the site of the Anhalter Bahnhof, a former railway station in Berlin-Kreuzberg which was used for deportations, but move into a villa near Kurfรผrstendamm.

It's been years, since pre-Covid times I think, that I've been able to do my favourite thing in the world โ spend a day wandering around a city looking at eg ships, churches, fortifications & Copenhagen was a dream for it. I think this is what they call #selfcare

When you are taking a tour of the archives at the Landesarchiv Berlin and you are trying to hold back tears at some point as you realize you are probably standing close to the original birth/marriage/death documents of your family, including a few born in former East Prussia (both inaccessible).
Three doctors and a priest are wearing masks around an operating table during the Korean War. One says, "Everybody knows war is hell.โ The second jokes, "Remember you heard it here last." The third, Hawkeye, says, "War isn't hell. War is war and Hell is hell and of the two, war is a lot worse." The priest asks, "How do you figure that, Hawkeye?โ โEasy, Father. Tell me, who goes to Hell?" "Sinners, I believe.โ "Exactly. There are no innocent bystanders in Hell. But war is chock full of them. Little kids, cripples, old ladies. In fact, except for a few of the brass, almost everybody involved is an innocent bystander."
Itโs still kind of shocking how good and adult a lot of 1970s American TV was, that a show like M*A*S*H was a massive hit without dumbing anything down. Not a lot of conversations like this on sitcoms now.
Anybody going to the โTag der offenen Tรผrโ of the archives tomorrow?
