I've shipped bugs that caused production incidents. Had database migrations gone wrong. Pipelines break all the time. But:

Have you ever refreshed an app and lost your entire identity?

Because LinkedIn did so yesterday.

And honestly, same same.

We've had gorgeous weather here recently.

- Sunny skies
- 15 to 18 degrees
- No jacket needed

And I noticed that I'm genuinely happier.

Not a little bit. A LOT.

And honestly, I've always been a happy person.

But this weather has a huge impact on my mood.

I felt more motivated.

Because that's taking care of your body and mind.

Which in the end increases productivity.

Take that walk.

P.S. The code can wait.

Our environment matters MORE than we admit.

We discuss tools and frameworks all the time.

But:

- Are we getting outside?
- Are we getting sunlight?
- Or are you sitting in a dark room for 10 hours?

So next time your team wants to continue work during their lunch break:

Invite them outside.

This is how I decide when to ask a question vs when to dive in and figure it out myself.

One of the biggest challenges developers face early in their career:

(but honestly ALL the darn time!)

Should I ask a question? Or should I try to figure it out myself?

I hear it so often:

Not only is this a great learning opportunity, it also shows initiative and respect for others' time.

So tell me, what's your strategy for deciding when to ask for help?

12.03.2026 07:02 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

When you do ask questions, it's important to come prepared:

- What have you tried already
- What's your current understanding of the problem
- Have specific questions, instead of "this doesn't work"

I recently took the CliftonStrengths assessment. Last Friday, I sat down with friend & coach Angeline to talk about the results. I realized the most useful part wasn't the list of strengths.

This 30 min call was a great "getting started" call.

(and a nice catch-up too!)

Because using your strengths is how you perform well.

Don't try to fix every weakness.

And here's the biggest insight for me from that meeting:

Self-development doesn't end when you get the report.

But it brings real value when you can recognize your strengths in action every single day.

Because we might think that the CliftonStrengths assessment is about knowing your strengths.

And this is very important, I'm not saying otherwise.

But it's more than just what you are good at.

The result helps you understand two things:

- What you naturally bring

In my first years as a software engineer, I was afraid to ask questions. I’d sit around for hours trying to solve it myself. But here’s how I learned to ask them fast:

A few years ago, I’d sit quietly in meetings.

I thought: “I’ll figure it out later.”

Spoiler:

I rarely did.

It’ll help you.

TL;DR:

- The best developers aren’t the ones who know everything.
- The best developers ask better questions.

How long did it take you to get comfortable asking “dumb” questions?
