I don't think it's ever really detailed what Daddy Pig does for work... he just uses a computer. My head canon is that his day job is the Keeper's advisor.

I disguise my videogame addiction by masquerading as a competent writer and game history enthusiast for @superjumpmagazine.com. I also like TTRPGs, cats and the North Melbourne Kangaroos π¦ www.superjumpmagazine.com/author/gavinannand

Showed #Bluey to the kids, they weren't interested. Dunno what the fuss is all about, and I'm not sure if all the smoking and violence is appropriate.
In the late 70s, two of my dad's old rugby mates wrote a book about getting on the piss at the various drinking establishments around Melbourne. It's a fantastic read, full of dry wit, and fills me with yearning for the dying institution of the "local pub".
One of the many issues with Western centric games media - if your only consumption of game history is through a Western lens, of course you would come to the conclusion that non-Western games are all derivative copies.
Whitewashing of game history is shamefully extensive.
Lootboxes and similar chance-based reward schemes in games exploit the same quirks of human psychology that gambling does.
I fear that our casual dismissal of these practices because "they're just games" or focusing on them being "optional" is ignoring the normalisation of an insidious danger.
Between 2015 and 2022, gambling rates in Australia have increased in the 18-34 age group, significantly so for men.
While there are a multitude of factors, I would hypothesise that this is also the generation that has grown up with mobile #gaming and the general proliferation of #lootbox mechanics.
Not to be a pedantic nerd, but Mike referring to Will as a sorcerer in #StrangerThings 5 was a whoopsie.
The sorcerer class didn't appear in #D&D until 3rd edition in 2000. Stranger Things 5 is set in 1987, at the tail end of 1st Edition.
UNWATCHABLE.
But otherwise, it's pretty good.
I HATE COLLINGWOOD Wolfenstein 3D mod on floppy disk. This version doesn't work. :(
Australians, please raid your Uncle's old PC in his shed, and help me find a copy of this to archive.

over 20% of the global game dev force was laid of on the last 3 years and absolutely none of it was because of piracy
There's so much digital history that is rapidly slipping away from us, and I feel an urgency to experience it before it's gone forever.

tbh, most days I just want to abandon all my responsibilities and play #classicgames all day, whether its tinkering with DOSBox, emulators or old hardware. Especially if they're forgotten games.
These are incredible!
You can really get the sense of Dotcom Boom energy.
Graphical fidelity has become more of an aesthetic choice, and isn't the deal-breaker it used to be. I remember games like Arcanum being criticised for looking dated, but that sort of argument holds less sway now, as it's often a conscious choice. It also means older games get a look in now.
I discussed this a little in a Superjump article. Graphical fidelity is sort of on a logarithmic scale, we're in the era of incremental updates rather than drastic leaps. On the plus side, I think it somewhat take graphics out of the equation.

Sorry chooms - feeling a bit crook today, so will have to give this one a pass :(
The plan remains though! I shall stream again soon.
Hey chooms!

Call of Cthulhu TTRPG books - the first is the investigators handbook and the second is the keepers rule book
Call of Cthulhu is the first #TTRPG I ever ran as a game master and is still my most loved system.
Itβs a horror game where players are βinvestigatorsβ looking into some form of mystery.
If youβve only ever played D&D, try it out. Itβs a very different type of game, but quite easy to pick up.
IDKFA...
Wait, why didn't that give me all your artwork?
We'll see who makes more honey.
Beads?!?
I guarantee youβre a better writer than ChatGPT. Never butcher your own writing or relinquish your own voice to put your name on the dead-eyed, mechanical hallucinations of a bunch of 1s and 0s. People who know good writing and AI have no trouble recognizing AI-generated garbage.
truly iconic that machine games has made a legacy for themselves as the βwe make games where you punch Nazis in the face a lotβ studio, i love that for them
It's far from a disaster, but something to consider before investing full price. Best recommendation, wait for a sale. And if you can't wait, subscribe to Xbox Game Pass for a month and try it out before committing to AAA pricing.

Both options have their benefits and drawbacks, but both are showing commitment to a design philosophy.
Oblivion Remastered is just Oblivion with new graphics, and that's it. What little it adds for veterans will be short-lived, and its shortcomings will not win new lifelong fans.
2) Take the "remake" pathway. Expand the world, make it larger, more richly detailed, a new graphics engine, but retain the spiritual elements - plot, quests, etc. The Silent Hill remake route.
My gut feeling is there were two better paths to take here:
1) Take the "faithful remaster" pathway - keep the engine largely unchanged, just support higher resolutions, more advanced rendering (lighting, RT, etc.), but retain the aesthetic of the original game. The Nightdive route.
