About *a third* of global fossil fuel CO2 emissions emitted during the Industrial age have occurred in roughly the last 17 years. The previous third was emitted over a period of roughly 26 years. The first third was emitted over a period of about 131 years.

Iβve been helping newcomers in public libraries for 20 years and these are two things I know: moving to Canada as an immigrant or refugee is a lot of paperwork and even more emotional labour. Also immigrants and refugees make our cities more interesting and excellent places.

I wonder if some politicians support harmful antivax policies just to put another nail in the coffin of expertise?
If experts are βanother opinionβ then governments can do whatever and are the only authority.
Also true: those who support democracy, support expertise.

We see here a self-styled "honest broker" with decades of experience in downplaying climate change presenting an age-old climate denial trope: using *annual* rainfall data as argument against an increase in *extreme* rainfall.
Does he *really* not know better? Or assume his readers won't?

Climate skeptics have new favorite graph; it shows the opposite of what they claim
It actually makes the case that COβ is the dominant control on Earthβs temperature
Joe Rogan made false claims about climate on his podcast speaking to Bernie Sanders. I am in the process of making a video debunking Rogan's claims. In the meantime check out the excellent work by @hausfath.bsky.social and @andrewdessler.com at climate brink www.theclimatebrink.com/p/climate-sk...

The argument that urban heat islands are biasing temperature records continually comes up. There is a long history of papers showing it's effect minimal globally (and the world is 70% oceans with no urbanization). My colleague Robert has an updated analysis for global land:

Annual Number of Wildfires vs. Annual Burn Area in Canada, 1983-2024.
As we can see, there are competing trends, with the NUMBER of fires generally declining over the last four decades, as the BURN AREA generally increasing over this time. A real climate signal if you ask me.

A screen capture of the science article on the CBC homepage today, which features a picture of me and a title reading βprominent climate scientist argues itβs time to ditch the myth of neutrality in science.β
Was not expecting to open the main CBC page this morning and see this!
In todayβs climate, I feel our message is even more relevant than even just a few months ago when the interview was recorded.

Whenever I post about climate, skeptical folks inevitable respond with this graph. So I decided to do something radical: actually read the underling scientific paper and ask the authors.
As it turns out, it actually says the opposite of what skeptics claim: www.theclimatebrink....

Ontario is now reporting 440 measles cases in 2025 so far, compared to 64 in 2024, and 101 between 2013 and 2023.
The vast majority of infections are in unvaccinated individuals.
The measles vaccine is free, widely available, highly effective and backed by decades of safety data.
