I love the quote & the sentiment! The lieutenant’s myopic view isn’t what we need from police. Some people do need arresting & some need tickets but many just need help to make their lives better. I’m glad that interaction inspired him into leadership and sorry that it likely discouraged others.

Radley brings up an unfortunate byproduct of politics & bureaucracy. Fixing the problem of bad convictions results in payouts & accountability. If we’re truly going to use data & analysis, it behooves us to shine light & transparency on the entire process, learning all the ways we need to improve.
