I did go for when they re-released it in 2019 for the 40th anniversary. I am glad I did, but you are correct. When you have to fully focus on it for the whole runtime…it wasn’t exactly easy.

That’s true. But looking at it as an individual movie, it never quite does it for me because it’s so sterile.

So much of the second act alone is spent with no dialogue and characters just looking at a viewscreen.

That’s fine for an esoteric sci-fi movie like 2001, but again, the heart and soul of those interactions is so conspicuously absent that it makes it less enjoyable for me. #StarTrekTMP

Watching Star Trek: TMP. It’s such a conundrum to me. I know it’s a good sci-fi story and has really interesting ideas. But TOS and Trek as a whole live and die by the characters and their interactions with each other.

Here, there’s little of that interaction for most of the film. Feels cold.

Oh don’t even get me started. And yeah, the films aren’t up to the high highs of Phase 3, but to act like there’s been nothing but shit since Endgame is so fucking disingenuous.
