This has been flooded for quite some time but the trees still stand. Reminds me that the inundation and the die off may have lasted a generation or a lifetime. Slow but continuous and perhaps too swift for some. #thefens

Doing a tidal survey and a part of salmarsh has been purposefully reflooded. My photo is poor but you can see a line of trees dying off in the distance. Reminds me of a very specific archaeological horizon in the fens below the Fen clays where we see marked tree die off.

My Polish partners family are all vets and doctors and pharmacists but there's also a strong line of musicians, entertainers and artists. Her parents house is full of art by family or traded art by friends and neighbours. Anyway, here's one of my favourites they let us have. #winterolympics

📰 "Princely" Anglo-Saxon grave in Suffolk contains two people alongside a horse. Grave goods such as a sword, spear, silver vessel and more indicate it was a high-status burial with possible links to Sutton Hoo.

I don’t want to worry anyone but Digging for Britain has just said that the largest UK archaeological dig is currently taking place a stone’s throw from where MR James set A Warning to the Curious.
I was not aware of this story/book. I need to grab a copy to take to the site!

There's one in February but I don't think it will be on site. 21st and 22nd February. Last I heard at Yoxford Village Hall. Awaiting confirmation!
I'd also have to check but I think Lakenheath is earlier (5th Century) whereas our provisional date is 6th/7th century.
Our horse was in its own grave cut with two individuals in another grave next to it, both under the same mound. Mound 17 at Sutton Hoo was similar with the horse in its own grave cut. Lakenheath had horse and rider both in the same grave cut. You are right though linking it to Lakenheath!!
You should see some of our fantastic sand burials though!!!
