That's a different point. The CBC is saying here that EA doesn't really have any powers. That's nonsense. As the no-coal folks down in the Crowsnest Pass learned to their cost during the 2024 coal referendum, EA has lots of inquisitorial powers & in that case it was trigger happy to use them.
This is irresponsible reporting from the CBC. I don't see how anybody cd read Part 6 of the CIA canlii.ca/t/56n83 & conclude that Elections Alberta didn't have enforcement powers in relation to the separation initiative petition.
Whether it has the will & resources to use them is another Q.

There's a statement from elections alberta (EA) in this CBC post to the effect that EA has ltd enforcement powers.
Not so. EA has significant enforcement powers under the Citizen Initiative Act (see Part 6) in relation to initiative votes.
It needs to use them.

He condemned Iran for its retaliatory strikes, but not the US and Israel for their initial attacks in violation of international law.

On the other hand, genuflection by state A to state B on a particular issue does not make state A a colony of state B.
UN Charter, Article 2(4): "All Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state.."
= the US and Israel are violating the most fundamental rule of the global order.
