Faster approvals. Faster projects. A new agreement will restore provincial approvals on projects within the province’s jurisdiction, reduce duplication, and further unlock Alberta’s economic potential.

And here's the Alberta press release
www.alberta.ca/release.cfm?...
There a lot to worry about here, but one clause really sticks in my craw:
"AND WHEREAS Alberta ....views UNDRIP as non-binding"
Those parts of UNDRIP that represent customary int'l law are bindng on Alberta.

Canada and Alberta reach agreement-in-principle to accelerate the construction of major projects in Alberta The world is changing rapidly. In response, Canada is transforming its economy from one that is reliant on a single trade partner to one that is stronger and more resilient to global shocks. To drive ...

Alberta and the feds have just issued press releases on a proposed agreement to allow Alberta to take over impact assessments in the province. A 21 day comment period.

That's a different point. The CBC is saying here that EA doesn't really have any powers. That's nonsense. As the no-coal folks down in the Crowsnest Pass learned to their cost during the 2024 coal referendum, EA has lots of inquisitorial powers & in that case it was trigger happy to use them.

This is irresponsible reporting from the CBC. I don't see how anybody cd read Part 6 of the CIA canlii.ca/t/56n83 & conclude that Elections Alberta didn't have enforcement powers in relation to the separation initiative petition.
Whether it has the will & resources to use them is another Q.

Alberta β€˜excessively vulnerable’ to foreign interference, experts warn | CBC News Alberta is not ready to deal with the threat of online disinformation coming from foreign actors in a possible referendum campaign on separation this fall, according to national security experts.

There's a statement from elections alberta (EA) in this CBC post to the effect that EA has ltd enforcement powers.

Not so. EA has significant enforcement powers under the Citizen Initiative Act (see Part 6) in relation to initiative votes.

It needs to use them.

Iran is no Iraq – it’s much worse than that Trump, Hegseth and Rubio lurch from one poorly thought-out explanation for the US’s Iran war to another – but it isn’t convincing anyone, let alone the American public, writes Eric Lewis

Canada refused to give support to an illegal war in 2003. We faced enormous pressure to go along with the USA.
What we see today is a totally illegal war launched by two dangerous criminal leaders.
There is no NATO mission here. This is Operation Epstein.

Celebrating Alberta newcomers | CΓ©lΓ©bration des nouveaux arrivants en Alberta Nominations are open for the 2026 Alberta Immigrant Impact Awards, recognizing newcomers’ contributions to making the province a better place to call home.

It's hard to find words for this level of hypocrisy Premier Smith.

Pete Hegseth's crazed celebration of violence makes him look increasingly like the autocratic religious leaders he seeks to demonize.
It can only bring shame to the country he represents and what a truly awful amoral role model for young Americans.
Generational damage.

4/5 The Premier's office dismissed the planned action, calling previous efforts a "colossal failure" and mocking McGowan's strategy.

But the seasoned organizer remains undeterred by the bravado, warning that pride comes before the fall.

"First they mock us... and then we win."

New tools to clean up tailings ponds Alberta’s government is investing $46 million into cutting-edge technologies that will safely reduce oilsands mine water and reclaim tailings ponds.

The province of Alberta's approach to the polluter pays principle; give the polluters public money (our money) to help them do what they are already legally obliged to do.

Too bad I can't sign; Mickey Amery is a Minister of Justice who doesn't understand (or doesn't care) that he also has distinct responsibilities as the province's Attorney General.

As Tony Benn says - doesn't bombing strengthen the determination? and, I would add, the determination to resist, to harbour resentment, to retaliate?
What future does the US and the State of Israel hope to build?

Carney calls for 'rapid de-escalation of hostilities' in the Middle East to protect innocent civilians | CBC

In new comments, Mark Carney misled and lied about Iran’s nuclear program and the history of negotiations β€” blaming failures on Iran, rather than Trump’s withdrawal.

He condemned Iran for its retaliatory strikes, but not the US and Israel for their initial attacks in violation of international law.

Excellent piece. As Duane reminds us the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) between the US and Iran (and other world powers) that Obama negotiated in 2015 was working until Trump # 1 tore it up.
The suffering & misery which this man is personally responsible for is immense.

For over 28 months since the start of the Israeli genocide, the Israeli military has not only killed Palestinians en masse, and systematically destroyed and restricted access to their homes, to clean water, food, medical care, schools, internet, fuel, and electricity.

Danielle Smith called for the feds to send more people to Alberta.

She invited people from across Canada to come & paid them $5000 each.

Now she wants to blame immigrants for her failure to plan, wild spending & attacks on public services.

But the only one to blame is Danielle Smith. #abpoli

Lloyd Axworthy: Canada once rejected America’s aggressive, unlawful foreign policy. Today Mark Carney embraced it By endorsing preventive strikes on Iran during ongoing diplomacy, and after Washington itself shredded the previous agreement, we are embracing the very doctrine we used to reject, writes Lloyd Axwort...

Canada's former foreign minister Lloyd Axworthy: "We invoke international law and the 'rules based order' when adversaries engage in unlawful actions, but abandon those same rules entirely when it's the Americans β€” whose gov't 60% of Canadians see as a threat"

To answer the Q in the abstract:
A colony, as a matter of law, will always be subject to the superior authority of the imperial power.
On the other hand, genuflection by state A to state B on a particular issue does not make state A a colony of state B.
