Okay, compromise. We get Elizabeth Fry back, but we get to have badgers and otters too. Win-win.

Let's keep Turing, too. He'd have been happy to share a banknote with an otter.

Just realised that Easter and the Tomb Sweeping Festival coincide this year. That's a crossover I wasn't prepared for.

My brain keeps registering my Mutuals tab as Mutants. Scrolling through, there are definitely some superheroes there. Keep up the good work!

Probably a terrible idea, but seems fitting. If tech companies want our water for cooling data centres, they could have our waste water and take responsibility for treating it while they're at it.

Absolutely!

Gosh, that must have been cathartic to write!

Wasn't he the one who chose to replace the unambiguous but obviously hypocritical "Don't be evil" with the much more interpretable "Do the right thing"? They're doing the right thing according to neoliberal 'greed is good' capitalism.

I suspect Krasnov would shrivel up and vanish in a puff of foul-smelling smoke if he were exposed to the content of that document. It's literally a justification for overthrowing an unjust authoritarian ruler.

Fantastic news! A strong win, from a strong and positive message. Really looking forward to seeing what she does in Parliament, alongside the other four wonderful Green MPs.

Any suggestions for non-plastic alternatives?

It's good framing, and leads straight to the question, "How can we create a society of collaborators that is safe from predators?"

One would think that the Established Church might have more say in political policy, particularly as they hold a bloc of seats in the House of Lords. Countering the mythology of scarcity that fuels selfish voting would be a highly socially responsible thing for them to do, a great use of their power

Quite so! The involvement of often quite ordinary and occasionally absolutely extraordinary people in these buildings is beautifully illustrated in Ken Follet's historical novel 'The Pillars of the Earth'. That book improved the way I looked at these buildings, that's for sure.

It would be a wild twist if 'chav' had the same etymology.

It is quite remarkable, but I've always felt really conflicted about it. All our mediaeval churches and cathedrals are symbols of imperial and feudal power, and nowhere is that more obvious than Lincoln.

Elect this lady, please! She just likened us all to greyhounds. High praise indeed! We really need people in parliament who have this kind of genuine respect for humanity, not to mention dogs.

My stage name for performing this song will be Rex Fingerbone. It's a dated reference, but still current among English learners, so I reckon a fair few people here will get it.

Outro

[spoken, direct to camera]
Seriously, though... Why do you park it in your living room?

Verse 2

Theyโ€™ve always got you in a rush,
You donโ€™t have time to wait for the bus,
And parking is a nightmare,
But youโ€™re the reason thereโ€™s dirt in my hair.

Smelly bike, noisy bike,
Why are you riding that?
Smelly bike, noisy bike,
Itโ€™s not your fault.

Taipei Roundelay, or Smelly Bike

Smelly bike, noisy bike,
Why are you riding that?
Smelly bike, noisy bike,
Itโ€™s not your fault.

They wonโ€™t pay you quite enough,
Public transport isnโ€™t good enough,
Youโ€™re obviously being exploited,
But youโ€™re no friend to those with lungs and ears.

Misread that as "bewilderedness" and can't help thinking that could work as a competing theory.

Is "betweenness" a way of expressing the regular Buddhist concept of "continuum" or something distinct?
