Yorkshire Clock - 1983
Yorkshire Television's station clock, as seen in 1983, reproduced in SVG format for viewing on phones and tablets.
WEBSITE UPDATE (2/2): A mechanical Yorkshire clock as seen in 1983, but I wonder if it was introduced in 1982 when Yorkshire updated its ident? Possibly the last mechanical clock before the electronically-generated one arrived? The hour markers resemble plant pot tags ๐ 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg...

HTV Wales
HTV Wales ident, introduced in 1982, reproduced in SVG format for viewing on phones and tablets.
WEBSITE UPDATE (1/2): In 1982 when Welsh programmes moved to S4C, HTV Wales introduced a new ident which appeared to have been bodged together from other bits. The symbol was thicker than for the WEST version! (Based on @kecskebak.bsky.social's Flash files.) 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg...

Hey there! I wasn't aware - every so often it disappears and I have to nudge them, but I didn't spot it this time and it all seems ok right now, thankfully. But thanks for letting me know ๐

GNAT Live Stream New Year's Eve
YouTube video by Richard Russell
Fellow TV nerds may appreciate this live stream from a BBC GNAT clock generator www.youtube.com/watch?v=I0M9... (It's the prototype - hence the funky artwork demonstrating all the features)

On Boxing Day 1983, BBC 1 treated us to a special Christmas closedown clock. The following night it was a different colour! (See them both at tvark.org/branding/bbc...) @tvark.bsky.social @tvroom.bsky.social

Liking the https and the Christmas theme :-) How did the node.js conversion go? I have lots of Classic ASP on my site and I know one day Microsoft will stop supporting it.

For some reason I've updated sub-TV for the first time in 20 years (and that is not an exaggeration) - I've brought it into the 21st Century by converting it to Node, but you'll be pleased to know I've not changed the turn-of-the-century aesthetic. Videos are inline now! www.sub-tv.co.uk

BBC 1 Clock - Christmas 1984
The BBC 1 Christmas clock from 1984, reproduced in SVG format for viewing on phones and tablets.
WEBSITE UPDATE: To celebrate the start of festive continuity on BBC One, here's the 1984 electronic clock that was adapted for the season... 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg.... It may be this was reserved for closedowns only. And the white 'snow' shadow appeared in a slightly different position every night!

As I recall, Pamela S answers and it looks like it's a 'heavy breathing' nuisance call, probably Mel Smith. Can't remember the punchline...

Was there a Not the Nine o'clock News sketch with Pamela Stephenson answering the phone with the same number? Or am I just misremembering the Victor Meldrew scene?

I believe Lambie-Nairn decided centre-justification was a neat solution for a design system that would need to cope with presentation in 4:3, 14:9 and 16:9. The balloon idents were filmed widescreen and there was even a widescreen closedown that was never used

Interesting user of the term "displays" instead of pages and weird that they call this "ITN's latest service".

From 1973 according to the Top 20. First time I've seen any early Oracle. 2-digit page numbers, monochrome, no graphics and all caps (ignoring the colour graphic of the queen which must have been from a later time).

Superb... I especially like the diagram on the door showing there's a card for each hand on the clock and a card where you can manually set the time! Was this just for BBC 1 NI or does the box also have the BBC 2 background in? And what is the drop-shadow card all about?

London Weekend
London Weekend's first flowing stripes ident from September 1970, reproduced by Dave Jeffery with Adobe Flash and then translated into SVG format for viewing on phones and tablets.
If you add in the widescreen version broadcast on the station's last day on air... 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg... and the MOCK of the Christmas-themed logo here 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg..., I think that makes 32 different versions you can view! Happy 55 years, London Weekend stripy logo!

On this day in 1970, London Weekend began using a new logo on screen, with a flowing blue, white and orange stripe. There was also a version with the orange and blue reversed, which introduced S1E7 of Don't Drink the Water. To celebrate, I re-created it: 625.uk.com/tv_logos/svg....
