In 1988 an innocuous Australian government agency was tasked with gathering statistics for industry. Its work made it a flashpoint for critics who charged that it helped rationalise climate denial.

It's a bit of fun!
I've written a book for adults called What Rhymes with Murder? about a new mother who's a bit bored and lonely and starts investigating a crime after a body is found at the library during Baby Rhyme Time.
It's out now

I'm a children's author so can't possibly say cunt.
It's so important that we explain our decision to ruin the planet in terms children can understand.
I'm going to write one on fossil fuel sponsorship called:
Some Thankyous Are Hard
It will help model gratitude towards people who have ruined kids lives but gave them a sticker pack or similar
If Carbon Capture & Storage CCS actually reduced emissions, Minister for Climate Change & Energy & COP31 President of Negotiations, @chrisbowenmp.bsky.social, would be giving the Keynote β NOT Minister for Fossil Fuels, sorry, Resources, Madeleine King

You can kick the truth tellers out of the CCS conference, but you can't make CCS work!
From fig leaf to scam β> #CCS is the new political alchemy #auspol
Activists disrupted a Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) conference in Melbourne this morning where the Resources Minister, Madeleine King spoke.
CCS is a nice idea, but it doesn't work and is now simply an excuse for fossil fuel companies to keep operating. It's a scam.
Thanks @xrvic.bsky.social
This is why we picketed the Carbon Capture & Storage conference at the RACV Club today in Melbourne #australia #energy

Itβs the gas industry latest piece of $hit$uckery so it can continue extraction.

Direct action is powerful

Cities worldwide are banning fossil fuel ads, from billboards to buses, as part of urgent climate action. Restricting βbadvertisingβ shifts norms and limits industry influence on public perception.

Also, these companies very rarely pay for the whole program, just a small component with the rest picked up by parents, community and government...but the fossil fuel companies get to take outsized credit.
Fossil fuel companies love to sponsor programs for kids because it makes them look nice (while they keep being bad).
People then say that this funding is the ONLY WAY the kids could have these opportunities.
In fact, it's the easiest way (in the short term) and adults have terrible imaginations.
Andrew Mountbatten Windsor slumped in back seat of car trying to hide. Driving in front looks disapproving.
Hello. I would like to put in an order for this expression on the faces of fossil fuel executives charged with climate crimes. Thankyou.
Yes, I think that's a common one too. It's a slippery slope to utopia!

Excuse number 4 can be broken down into two types.
4a) We'll show them the environment is nice and under threat so they'll want to save it
4b) We'll help them reduce emissions through technology
Finished my 5 Common Excuses for Fossil Fuel Sponsorship.
1. We do good things with the money
2. We all still use fossil fuels so it's hypocritical to criticise them
3. It's rude to say no
4. We'll help them be better
5. There's no other way
Any others come to mind?
Number 5 excuse: It's the only way

Number 5 excuse for accepting fossil fuel sponsorship (and why I still think it's a bad idea).
Scientists warn we are edging towards a βpoint of no returnβ, where climate tipping points could push us into a hellish βhothouse Earthβ. Every fraction of a degree matters. We must urgently cut climate pollution from coal, oil and gas and scale up clean energy.
Youβll hear it said that Jon Kudelka was a genuinely wonderful and generous man, this was undeniable, and the interactions I had with him bore that out, he was also a fucking punisher of hypocrites, he adored fighting bad people, and he had picked some quality enemies
Remembering this today. Kudelka leading a successful cartoonists boycott of the Ampol sponsorsed Walkleys.
Scene is Julia Gillard and Chris Bowen (then Min for Immigration) in a lighthouse with "Light on the Hill: written under the bulb. Gillard is turning the light off, saying 'It was attracting the boats"
I have many, many favourite Kudelka cartoons but this, from 2011, is possibly one of the best Aus pol cartoons ever drawn.
